Every year, there are those moments on television that blow you away. Moments that you’ll remember, long after the series is done. As we bring 2022 to a close, everyone at Fangirlish has been reflecting on our favorite TV moments of the year. Here are our favorites:
You can argue about which moment in Bridgerton‘s second season is the hottest. In fact, we have. (In fact, we did for this very list, giving strong contention to the bee sting scene.) But when it comes to the best moment of the season, we have to give it to the final Pall Mall game with newlyweds Kate and Anthony. When they finally show up, that is. Other moments in the season may be steamier, but the absolute joy and contentment on Kate and Anthony’s faces make this moment impossible to top. After everything these two had to go through to get together, this moment is well-deserved and, frankly, long overdue. And as steamy as forbidden love can be, Happily Ever After is sexy, too.
Procedurals rarely give us moments of supreme happiness without then making us suffer, and though Chicago Fire is no exception to this rule, the show did give us a golden, beautiful moment as Stella Kidd and Kelly Severide finally tied the knot. It was a long time coming and the moment was absolutely perfection, with even Jesse Spencer‘s Casey returning to be best man (as he should). But above all this moment was about two people who made each other better at every turn, who grew together and who found a way to be truly partners, in good moments and bad ones. TV couples we can depend on are few and far between, but Stellaride is definitely one of them.
House of the Dragon
It’s a bittersweet moment, and for fans privy to all that’s coming, it might not feel like such a big deal, but the first Queen of the Seven Kingdoms still deserves some credit, if only because… Even in Westeros, women have had to fight to be taken seriously. And Rhaenyra tried, throughout the entirety of the first season of House of the Dragon. She tried to earn people’s respect, their support. But some people she was never going to convince and those people never objected to anything about her other than that fact that she was a woman. That’s why they tried to steal her throne, again and again. That’s why they crowned her brother. And in the end, to see Rhaenyra being crowned, her husband and everyone around her kneeling before the Queen, that’s a very powerful moment. No one can take that away from her, no matter what comes next.
A League of Their Own
A League of Their Own was about much more than baseball. It was about teamwork. Friendship. And discovering who you are and learning to embrace and love that person, even if (or perhaps especially if) that person isn’t who society tells you that you should be. One of the most crushing moments in the series led to the team’s best hitter getting traded to another team, breaking up not just the Peaches but a years-long friendship. Which made the championship game in the finale all the sweeter. When Jo De Luca (Melanie Field) is unable to complete her winning run around the bases due to injuries she sustained in the bar raid, her former teammates rush to carry her home. It costs the Peaches the game, but what’s the point of a victory when it comes at the expense of a friend?
Among Star Wars fans, to say that the prequel films can be divisive would be an understatement. However you feel about the movies, however, the battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin in the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi was a satisfying culmination of the series. What starts off as a somewhat generic battle becomes something more when Obi-Wan destroys Vader’s mask to show the man underneath – and must finally come to terms with the fact that the friend he once knew is truly gone.
Roswell, New Mexico
When Kyle and Isobel started spending time together in Roswell, New Mexico, we immediately saw a spark. They always worked well together on all the science stuff and she became his best friend. As they spent more and more time together their feelings turned into more. It was obvious that Kyle wanted more with Isobel but she had a lot of hurdles to overcome with her fears from failed past relationships. When Isobel and Kyle finally gave into their feelings and admitted they were in love with each other and she said it back, it was such a beautiful moment.
In a series this good, how do you choose just one moment? Everything about The Sandman is so amazing – from the writing to the acting to the visuals – that it’s hard to pinpoint a single stand-out scene. If we had to pick a favorite episode, it would probably be episode 6 for the strength of Death alone. But for a favorite scene, we’re going with the battle between Dream and Lucifer in episode 4. Imaginative and profound as it was, it also laid the groundwork for what we’re sure to be a major plot in season 2. It also led to one of our favorite lines of the season: “…What power would Hell have if those imprisoned were not able to dream of Heaven?”
She-Hulk, Attorney at Law
We don’t know about you, but we had an absolute blast with She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Everything worked for us, but we felt like we were missing something before we watched the finale. There was something more we wanted out of the series, but we couldn’t quite put our finger on it. Then in episode 1×09, “Whose Show Is This?” something we didn’t anticipate happened: She-Hulk burst through my Disney+ menu and chatted with the writers’ room and K. E. V. I. N.! We couldn’t stop laughing. As a long time She-Hulk fan, watching our favorite super gal do something like we’d seen her do for ages in the comics was the icing on the cake. It was perfection, which is why that moment makes our list of favorite TV moments of 2022.
One of the top moments this year happened on S.W.A.T.: Chris and Street finally became a couple. They’ve been friends and teammates for. Long time, but things kept getting in their way of being together. But after 5 years, the show finally let us have our moment and let them be happy! They declared their love for each other and made love for the first time. It was a long wait for them to figure everything out, but we’re glad that S.W.A.T. gave us this happily ever after.
