The adaptations of great literary successes are in fashion! The latest to join the club are A Visit from the Goon Squad and its sequel The Candy House, both written by Jennifer Egan with Olivia Wilde as director. Do you want to know more? Keep reading!
Here we go!
A Visit from the Goon Squad is made up of a set of 13 interrelated stories with a large cast of characters, all connected to Bennie Salazar, a record company executive, and his assistant, Sasha. Furthermore, the book became a best seller and won the prestigious Pulitzer Prize in 2011.
For its part, The Candy House is the sequel in which we meet again with the characters that we fell in love with in A Visit from the Goon Squad, as well as with their children.
According to Deadline, the books are being brought to the small screen and Olivia Wilde will be in charge of directing the show, whose executive producer will be Jennifer Fox. After her experience as an actress, Wilde has been succeeding behind the scenes since 2019. Her debut film garnered numerous prestigious awards.
From there, everything went up for Olivia Wilde. Today, betting on her is synonymous with success, although this series will be the first time that she has signed up for a television project as a director. The closest she has come is the recently released Beef, on Netflix.
Despite her extensive career behind the scenes, Wilde’s name will forever be linked to one of her most recent projects, Don’t Worry Darling. And not only because of the controversy with one of its stars, but because it was number one at the box office in the US at its premiere and the third highest-grossing film by a director in 2022.
In addition to this show, Wilde has no shortage of projects to work on. She is currently focused on directing and developing a new, as yet untitled Spider-Man movie and, at the same time, is developing a Christmas movie.
Olivia Wilde turns everything she gets her hands on to gold, but most of all, she does a masterful job with every project. We definitely can’t wait for this series!
