No one can blame us for making Perfect Addiction our new addiction (pun intended) and our guilty pleasure. We talked with Claudia Tan, author of the book, about the adaptation process, the goals of Young Adult romance novels, and everything that is to come for this series. Ready?

Strong and Independent Female Leads as Brand Identity in Perfect Addiction Series
Based on Perfect Addiction, published by W by Wattpad Books, an imprint of Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group, the book is a Young Adult Romance that falls outside the mold of the genre. So we begin our interview by discussing with Claudia Tan what makes Perfect Addiction different and how, thanks to that, it’s a story that manages to stand out from the rest.
As Tan told us, one of the defining features of Perfect Addiction is that it puts the spotlight on the story of a strong and independent woman, so we went deeper into this topic. In this regard, Tan shared why it’s so important to her to mark the independence and courage of her female leads while showing how they stand up for themselves and get themselves out of a situation that hurts them.
While Claudia Tan’s take on her female leads should be the norm, we can’t help but notice that we’re not there yet in entertainment in general. Tan shared with us her desire that, little by little, the trend will change and there will be more independent and brave female leads all over — a wish that we share with her.
Dream to Screen is Never Easy
Later in the interview, Tan discussed the pressure of comparisons. Perfect Addiction is a worldwide phenomenon that is beginning to be adapted to the big screen and it’s inevitable to compare it with another youth phenomenon, the After Series.
It’s a comparison that comes with some pressure and expectations… and Claudia was candid when she commented that, while both stories belong to the same genre and captivate young adult audiences, they have differentiating elements that make them unique.
After this, we confessed to Claudia Tan that Perfect Addiction left us wanting more and we wanted to know if Sienna and Kayden would have a sequel or if it was a closed story for her. And well, just watch the video to find out the answer (wink, wink).
Continuing with the most relaxed part of the interview, we made Claudia decide between her two male leads… and she didn’t disappoint us with her choice!
In one of our last questions, Claudia Tan shared that meeting the cast was one of the most special moments for her during the entire Perfect Addiction adaptation process. For her, it was like seeing her characters come to life… and we couldn’t agree more. In addition, as a result of her experience, Claudia had a few words and some good advice for writers who don’t dare to share their stories.
Lastly, Claudia Tan shared her upcoming plans for Perfect Ruin, the prequel to Perfect Addiction and, for now, the latest book in the Perfect series.
