Yes, ladies and gents, Russell T. Davies has added yet another icon to Doctor Who‘s roster of heavy hitters. Jinkx Monsoon, the two-time winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race, is finally on set and ready to wreak havoc on The Doctor’s life and the first look is to die for.
Covered in what looks like piano keys, the iconic drag queen looks like she’s ready for the runway. Her shoulders are pointed, giving a sinister look to match her tall hair and slanted eyebrows. And the length of the outfit is giving opulence and glamour, and like the kind of person who knows how to make an entrance, no matter where they go.
Personally, we can’t stop staring at the piano keys on their lapels and sleeves. Maybe it’s possible she could try to kill The Doctor with the power of music…? It wouldn’t be the first strange villain the show has had. Heck, Doctor Who‘s iconic for its angry salt and pepper shakers. (Sorry, not sorry Daleks.) But honestly, this just means the show’s level of camp has risen to new heights. Which is exactly what we want.
Davies celebrated the news on Instagram saying, “Jinkx Monsoon as… well who can that be?! much fun! So much terror! And not everyone is getting out of this alive. DOCTOR WHO 2024!”
For now, her character is shrouded in mystery, much like everything having to do with Ncuti Gatwa‘s Fifteenth Doctor, but we know we’ll learn to love her with plenty of Whovians already pledging their allegiance to this new villain and iconic-looking outfit.
Some even theorized that this could be evidence that we’re getting a musical episode of Doctor Who. Which, usually we would side-eye episodes like that. But for this show? Oh, we’ll allow it and participate.
Then there were others who were here for LGBTQ+ talents like Neil Patrick Harris and Jinkx causing chaos on Doctor Who.
At the end of the day, we hope Jinkx ranks high amongst Classic Doctor Who villains like the Daleks and the Master. And who knows, maybe she’s a Time Lady in disguise or a classic villain who evolved into a new form. What we do know is that the show is coming back for a full season with Gatwa later this year. And it’s going to be tied up in Gatwa’s Doctor in the slickest 70s outfit you’ve ever seen with an unapologetic afro. But he looks amazing next to Millie Gibson‘s Ruby and we can’t wait to see them run, save the day, and show us why The Doctor is one of the bravest heroes out there.
