We love a book cover and can’t get enough of them. We find ourselves entranced by covers and where they could take us, as well as the things that they make us think about.
Book covers are what first draw us to a book and make us want to flip the pages.
We’ve been looking forward to seeing the cover for Millie Bobby Brown’s upcoming book, Nineteen Steps.
Described as an “epic story of love, loss and secrets” this historical novel is inspired by the life of Brown’s own grandmother Ruth, who survived the Bethnal Green Tube disaster. According to the BBC, this disaster happened during World War II and was said to be the biggest loss of civilian life in the UK during that time period. Apparently, 170 people were fleeing from an air raid into the east London station when they were crushed to death at the entrance of this shelter due to panic that led to asphyxiation.
In Nineteen Steps we follow 18-year-old Nellie Morris. She’s a young woman who lives with her family in Bethnal Green and is “enchanted with the idea of a broader world.” And just as Nellie is beginning to embrace a new life with Ray, the Bethnal Green incident happens, leading to catastrophic consequences. Subsequently, Nellie’s world is absolutely destroyed and a personal fight ensues where she tries to find happiness within the sorrow.
The cover for the book was released by Millie via her Instagram.
“I am so excited to share the final artwork for my upcoming book, Nineteen Steps! This story is so personal to me and I love being able to bring you in for these early looks.” Millie captioned the posted.
She continued, “Nineteen Steps is inspired by my own family’s experience during World War II and is also a story of love, longing, and loss. Nineteen Steps is coming this September, but you can pre-order a copy now from the link in my bio.”
Nineteen Steps is set to publish on September 12, 2023.
