Going from being in a relationship to being single is an experience. It’s not something that is fun and yet is something that is extremely fun. For Mavis, learning to be single and for Khalil, learning to want to be in a relationship, is a big thing.
Survival of the Thickest has our attention and we’re kinda obsessed.
One thing that we love about this show is that Mavis is ready, willing, and able to find her own way. She’s not backing down from a challenge, she’s exhibiting strength, and she’s inspiring you to be a bad ass bitch.
A boss bitch!
Now, Mavis as a stylist isn’t something that I get on board with, due to her outfit when she goes to Natasha’s. Like what the actual fuck is that shirt. Shit is not cute. Ones shoulders should never look like that. It’s like ruffles and toole threw up.
We do love though that Mavis is willing to fight for what she wants, even if that means dressing a woman who is kinda damn crazy. Cause hey, that’s what Natasha is.
The event that she needs to get dressed for is her ex-husbands funeral. She walks in like she owns the world and needs all of the attention, but the attention isn’t anything that anyone wants to see.
Natasha has had Mavis holding her purse and in it is a strap on. Natasha gives no fucks and is willing to drag her ex-husband. She goes on about pharaohs and how her ex really should take something he loved into the afterlife. PSA – no one needs to know if someone likes to be pegged. None of our business.
We are sex positive and whatever makes you happy, but if someone wants to let people know about their sex life, they should be able to let them know on their terms.
We all don’t have the right to out them at all.

Mavis is learning from everything in her life, but she isn’t alone. Her besties Marley and Khalil are there to remind her what she needs to do and how focusing on her ex isn’t the way to live. Mavis needs to realize she’s a bad ass bitch and she’s in charge of her own destiny.
We all get that at this point in her life, she’s still focused on the life that she can have but she’s also reflecting on the life that she doesn’t have anymore. Letting go isn’t easy.
When we heard of Survival of the Thickest we thought that the show would focus a lot on the size of the characters. BUT, we were wrong. What they do is focus on the people and the journey. It doesn’t act like because you are a certain size you are only worth of certain things and you have to settle in life. Or that you can’t do something in life because of your size.
But here, we’re all focused on body positivity and the way that you, as a human being, can accomplish anything that you need or want to.
Mavis does amazing at her job, even when she goes viral and it’s embarrassing. At least she’s viral and we have to admit that we think it’s going to take her far.
Mavis doesn’t want any regrets and as we watch her friends, Khalil and Marley, we know that they don’t want to either.
Speaking of Khalil… he bought a couch and yes, that is a big thing.
What we’ve learned is that Khalil teaches art and he’s really talented. We love seeing the class and all the art. What we’ve also learned is that Khalil is a fuckboy and he doesn’t like that about himself.
He sleeps with a woman from his class, one of his students. He’s used to being the person that asks them to leave, so when she’s like thanks for the bang, I gotta go, he’s put off.
But he also doesn’t like being called a fuckboy. He wants to be at least a fuck man. Is that a thing? No judgement here, we truly don’t have answer for that.
It’s something that she says about him not even having a couch that really gets to him. He’s just never, ever thought about it. Or maybe he has, but he knows that letting someone sit on the couch with him is a step in a relationship that he’s not willing to take just yet.
It’s definitely not something fun at all when someone calls you out on your shit and makes you see something about yourself that you may not see. Khalil may not like it, but it was something that he did need to hear.
He was so proud of the couch that he bought and when he went to tell the woman he slept with, she was basically like ya, you’re cute, but I am good, don’t want anything serious.

What a slap to the ego.
We loved seeing Khalil want to be with Anissa, but her interested in her own way. All too often we see the man be the one not interested and it’s definitely possible in this life that it’s the woman that isn’t into it or want anything serious.
It just goes to show, you never stop growing, learning, and changing – no matter how old you are.
And hey, now we just wanna see his couch.
OTHER THOUGHTS
- We need a friend like Marley to just randomly venmo us $500
- Marley may be our third favorite character on this show
- The strip club convo made us laugh
- Marley is someone we love and fear – she’s no nonsense
- OMG that charcuterie board – we woulda done the same. But also that pate or whatever it was made us wanna vomit.
