This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the television show being covered here wouldn’t exist. We stand with the WGA and SAG-Aftra.
For a second we thought that Khalil and Marley were having sex and TBH that kinda scared us, because no doubt, she’s tame his ass. But alas, they aren’t and Mavis is unplugging a toilet.
But here we are with an opening that didn’t need to happen. But here we are.
Mavis is asked to style a wedding. A dog wedding. Dog weddings? Is this where life is?
Though we shouldn’t be surprised, because we do watch Southern Charm, apparently dog weddings are a think and we need to respect that. Right? Who are we to judge. Well, we are going to judge Natasha, because it’s Natasha.
The thing is the wedding is going to be covered by People Magazine so it’s a big thing for Mavis.
But there are a lot of big things happening for all of them. For Mavis, for Khaliil, and for Marley.
KHALIL CAUGHT FEELINGS
When you catch feelings, no one really enjoys it. There is this moment of indecision and this moment of what if. You never know what the other person is feeling and what if you’re the only one that has caught feelings? Khalil is set in his ways and doesn’t know how to accept feelings.
But he has feelings and he needs to tell her. He of course doesn’t want to admit it and we’re not blaming him because we would feel the same. He’s struggling to find the words to admit that he likes her, but he’s very jealous of anything she does without him.
So he decides that he’s going to tell her he likes her without telling her, which we all know will never work. People like to be told what’s up and how a person feels. Khalil doesn’t get that though. He just gets that he thinks that he’s done the right thing. He’s definitely not done the right thing.
After having a great day with a woman and then kissing her on her forehead and telling her basically you’re proud of her – you might as well say you never want to have sex ever again.
The thing I do love is that Khalil and Mavis have such a good relationship that she can tell him just what he’s doing wrong. He can be oblivious and that’s fine, but it’s gonna cost him and she’s here to tell him just that.
When Khalil has to admit he has feelings, it changes everything. In the best way.
THE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
Jacque, why you a stage five clinger. You need to let Mavis live her best life. I have to admit though, their showdown in the closet was everything.
Mavis is this strong fierce woman that isn’t going to back down. She’s hurt over Jacque, it shows. Yet she’s holding her own and isn’t caving to his charms. And hey, even being at a wedding, she’s holding it together.
Until she’s not.
The thing is that Mavis keeps having to come face to face with the fact that the life that she thought that she would have, she’s not going to have. And what it manifests as is her crying her eyes out at the dog wedding.
Like full on making a spectacle of herself in tears. One can’t tell if it’s because of the wedding or if it’s because she’s not sure how she feels about Jacque.
One thing is though – Mavis is going to figure it out. And she does. She does quickly.
She hears what he had to say. She hears what he said about them not communicating and takes responsibility for it. But it’s over. Even when he asks her to come home, she reiterates that it is over.
Mavis has a lot of shit that has gone wrong, but the truth is she’s always facing it and she’s like I am going to persevere. And she does.
And even gets her favorite toilet out of the situation.
THE THREESOME TO THE TWOSOME
Marley, you bad bitch. You do your thing. Marley has been sleeping with her trainer and he tells her that he wants to have a threesome with his girlfriend. The girlfriend is totally down.
Now while I am confused why she’s down at first, because like I would want to beat the shit out of someone who was sleeping with my man. Actually, I would probably beat the shit out of him for being a shitty person. I don’t like shitty people.
Marley is always down for anything. She’s down for exploring herself, her life, and what she wants and needs to be. She likes being in control, but here, she’s letting someone else take control. When the threesome starts, the trainer has to leave, and though it’s supposed to stop, it doesn’t.
Marley and the girl have sex and she loves it. She’s always had to suppress this part of herself and now she doesn’t. What I loved is that she spoke to her therapist and the explored the queer part of her. Marley is figuring out who she is.
It doesn’t matter how old you are, you can always be finding a way to grow. You can always be finding yourself.
