7 years of Carol Danvers, 2 years of Captain Rambeau, and one year of Kamala Khan. The Marvels trailer is here, and not only does it bring us the trio of the decade, but it also forces the boys to take a backseat. From what the trailer shows us, we are in for a wholesome, hilarious, and action-packed film that is phenomenally female-forward.
Seeing three different light heroes of diverse backgrounds and generations come together is an interesting dynamic. You have a cheerful superhero whose tragedy bubble hasn’t quite been burst, and you’ve got two adults who have only ever trusted each other’s powers. You’ve also got Nick Fury, who is probably exhausted after handling Peter Parker, so we can’t wait to see how well he handles Peter 2.0.
From what we can see so far, Kamala doesn’t have as much trouble adjusting to her powers, as much as she has trouble adjusting to Goose. Also, the antagonist is BEAUTIFUL. I know she’s the “bad guy,” but I mean CMON. Seriously, Zawe Ashton is STUNNING. And SO powerful.
Agility and strength embodied, Dar-Benn is focused on restoring her homeland after the civil war, and it looks like Kamala’s bracelet is more than just one. It seems like the powers that be intertwine from there. Their intertwining powers are supposed to challenge them enough that the Kree may win the war with Captain Marvel.
If anything, I’m thrilled that the focus is female-forward all around because you can already see the depth of the storyline as more than heroes and villains. Like seeing the difference between Captain Rambeau in awe of Kamala’s powers and Captain Marvel’s more stoic. It shows us what our heroes have been exposed to and how they view what most deem “magical.”
The Marvels is clearly a mix of heartfelt storylines, hilarity, and fangirling. From Kamala fangirling over everything to tossing Nick his gun, to the sheer amount of Flerken’s, we are in for quite the ride. If you haven’t already, check out the trailer below:
The Marvels is slated for theatrical release on November 10th, 2023.
