Netflix’s The Harder They Fall is a 2021 western from director Jeymes Samuel that was honestly one of the best films to come out that year. Several things made this film spectacular, from the original story to the unique music and tense action scenes. Despite the movie’s success, there had been no word about a sequel. But Samuel recently blessed us with news that he is working on a sequel to bring back the Nat Love gang. Since we’re so excited about the next The Harder They Fall movie, here’s more of what we want to see!
More Revenge
Revenge was a huge part of the first film that resonated with many of us who watched it. So, it’s only fair that the writers continue the same theme for a second movie. Everyone from The Rufus Buck Gang to the Nat Love Gang seemed to have a score to settle with someone else who’d wronged them in one way or another in the past. And they could only do that through a shootout after the obvious bar brawl.
Buck and Love’s quest for revenge makes for a compelling story when you find out how everything is connected at the end. I don’t know if The Harder They Fall 2 will be able to top the twisted revenge story from the first movie, but I hope so!
More Great Music
The Harder They Fall has one of the best and most memorable original soundtracks of a film I’ve heard. The songs, a mix of reggae, Hip-Hop, and R&B, brought a lot of authenticity to the characters and were perfectly weaved into their life stories, making the scenes with the music even more impactful. The 14-track album is written and produced by Samuel, and Jay-Z executive produced it with performances from other musicians like Kid Cudi and CeeLoo Green.
Samuel should stick with Roc Nation for the sequel and bring on more musical talent; Beyonce, maybe? The song playing before Treacherous Trudy stands in front of the train holding Rufus Buck is just one of the hits that make this film feel so badass.
More Great Talent
The first movie brought together some of the most talented actors in Hollywood. From Idris Elba’s portrayal of Rufus Buck to Major’s pained yet touching acting as Nat Love, their talents had me glued to my screen following their character’s quests for revenge and freedom. Since most of Nat Love’s gang is gone, more men will need to join in on whatever adventure will be in store for us in The Harder They Fall 2.
LaKeith Stanfield, Idris Elba, and Edi Gathegi were great additions to the cast, but I can’t wait to see who will be cast as part of the new Nat Love Gang. A sequel with great actors like Denzel Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, and Jamie Foxx would be unstoppable.
More Trudy Smith
Undoubtedly, Regina King’
s character, Trudy Smith, was the best thing about The Harder They Fall. She broke Rufus Buck out of prison and led his gang while he was in jail. And that was before Smith killed the bully who constantly made fun of her sister Mary for having Polio. Trudy Smith’s tough childhood turned her into a cold, no-nonsense outlaw, and King’s acting makes you fear the lengths she’s willing to go to get what she wants.
In all the Westerns I’ve watched (which aren’t that many), the plot revolves around a woman who needs to be saved, but surprisingly, in this Netflix movie, King’s character is the big bad villain everyone needs to be protected from. The coolest scene from the movie came at the film’s end when Trudy Smith is shown holding her hat as what is left of the Nat Love Gang rides off into the sunset. With that ending, part 2 of The Harder They Fall better do everything possible to keep King’s character in the story.
More Of Nat Love And Stagecoach Mary
I would be lying if I said I only watched the entire The Harder They Fall film because it’s a Western. I wasn’t planning on finishing the film when I started, but how the movie introduced us to Love, and Mary’s relationship was so relatable. Because we’ve all been there with that one guy who we’re head over heels for, but they’re never consistent enough to build a solid relationship with.
When Love serenaded Mary at the top of the cliff before she went to risk her life for him, it opened my eyes to the fairytale underneath this epic tale. One of my favorite scenes in the entire film was when Love rides into the sunset with Mary. The Harder They Fall 2 should feature more of the couple’s adventures because we all love a good story where the couple gets a happy ending.
