Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk came up with something unique when they brought the American Horror Story anthology to life in 2011. The series is so interesting because it incorporates the horror genre with social and cultural issues added in. Since American Horror Story began, there have been 12 seasons. We’ve been to a murder house, an asylum, and the circus, to name just a few mind-bending and jaw-dropping storylines. And no series is the same. We can’t wait to see what they do with season 12 of American Horror Story: Delicate.
American Horror Story: Delicate is based on the book Delicate Condition by Danielle Valentine and tells the story of “Anna Alcott, a talented actress who becomes convinced that someone is determined to prevent her from conceiving a child. Despite her struggles, she eventually becomes pregnant with the help of IVF, but tragedy strikes when she experiences a heartbreaking miscarriage. Plagued by the haunting belief that her baby is still alive inside her, Anna finds herself isolated in her anguish as no one else believes her harrowing claims.”
I haven’t read Delicate Condition, but I am very curious about it, especially after seeing all of the teasers and the official trailer for this installment of American Horror Story. I don’t know what happens in the book, but I do know that there are many spiders in the teasers that have been released for the show. I mean, A LOT. As someone with arachnophobia, it made my skin crawl, and I was looking over my shoulder and on my walls for any sign of eight-legged, uninvited guests. Is that going to stop me from watching this show? Absolutely not. I’m a fan of Ryan Murphy, American Horror Story, and the horror genre, so I can’t pass this up.
The series is set to be split into two parts, with Part One releasing on September 20th. No release date has been announced for Part Two yet. Halley Feiffer will serve as showrunner, and this is the first installment of American Horror Story not led by Murphy. As usual, the cast will be star-studded, and you’ll see some familiar faces because Murphy likes to keep the same actors on board. The cast for American Horror Story: Delicate is as follows: Emma Roberts, who is a longtime vet on AHS, will play Anna Victoria Alcott, and Zachary Quinto, who is also an AHS vet, is returning as well. In addition to these two, Kim Kardashian, Matt Czuchry, Annabelle Dexter-Jones, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Odessa A’zion, Julie White, and Cara Delevingne also star.
Seeing Kardashian’s name listed was probably a bit of a shocker if you’re like me. I admit I am a little skeptical because the only film I’ve ever seen her in was Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor. She was playing a version of herself, so it wasn’t a memorable performance. It seems to be the same with her taking on the role of Siobhan, but I could be wrong. That being said, I am interested to see what her character is like. Based on the mini teasers released, I have a slight feeling she may turn out to be the big baddie in this story, and that is what has me most intrigued.
The official trailer for American Horror Story: Delicate is not as creepy as the teasers have been and honestly gives nothing away. To the unsuspecting viewer, if you didn’t know this was a Murphy series, you might not even know it was American Horror Story. One thing is clear: We are ready to be scared this Fall and think this is a great way to get us headed into spooky season.
