Our obsession with true crime isn’t new — we aren’t just watching the genre because there is a distinct void in our lives thanks to the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. But, we will admit we have watched a lot more true crime lately. We make no apologies for it, we’re missing our procedurals and we need a fix! And though true crime doesn’t always have the answers in the way fiction does, there’s still a great deal of closure to be found in the genre.
It’s not about the bad guys — it never has been. Instead, it’s about the people doing their best to catch them.
A show that looks like it’s going to focus on just that is Oxygen’s Prosecuting Evil, which stars Cold Justice‘s Kelly Siegler. The series is set to examine the “most harrowing homicides and toughest trials in Texas history — all told with Kelly Siegler’s unique insight and unparalleled access. “
Basically, we’re going to get a history lesson, a true crime one — but we got the best guide for this we possibly can.
“As Chief of Special Crimes in the busiest courthouse in the Lone Star state, Kelly Siegler battled to get killers into courtrooms and faced off with their formidable defense attorneys. Alongside the case investigators and victims’ families, Kelly draws on her own extensive experience, the prowess of her fellow state prosecutors and the expertise of skillful defense attorneys to go beyond the headlines and reveal how perpetrators were brought to justice: Texas style.”
The show is executive produced by Dick Wolf, Kelly Siegler, Casey Kriley, Jo Sharon, Adam Kassen, Andrew Nock and Tom Thayer. Wolf Entertainment, Universal Television Alternative Studio and Magical Elves produce.
A pretty good combo, if you ask us.
Prosecuting Evil With Kelly Siegler premieres Friday, November 18th at 8/7c on Oxygen True Crime.
