It’s almost like a joke, and not a really good one. The premise of Surviving Paradise had already made that clear. And look, we’re normally suckers for trashy reality TV, but this …well, this feels like a step too far for us. The trailer just proves it.
We’re not sure it’s even worth it to watch all these privileged people have to deal with “the elements” and “survive on rice and beans.” It’s like a wannabe Survivor, except there’s a luxurious villa at the end of the road and they don’t really care about the message they’re sending about poverty. It’s all fun and games! Except it isn’t.
“This is judgment day,” host Jessimae Peluso says at one point in the trailer. But is it? Is the show capable of social commentary? We think the answer is no, but we leave you the trailer right here, so you can decide for yourself:
In this first look at the new reality competition, SURVIVING PARADISE, host Jessimae Peluso takes the players through the strategy, alliances, and trust needed to make it out of the wilderness and into the lap of luxury. Will they use cunning or kindness to make it to the top?
Surviving Paradise drops on October 20, only on Netflix.
