The 2014 horror hit It Follows is undoubtedly one of the creepiest movies of the last decade. And apparently, we’re going to get more of this supernatural nightmare in the sequel They Follow.
Starring Maika Monroe, It Follows tells the story of a supernatural force that follows a young woman named Jay. The movie follows a sexual encounter with a young man who was being followed by a supernatural force and basically pushed it on her. And as Jay starts to understand the reality of her situation, we are taking on a journey where an invisible force is hunting her to tear her apart.
The sequel seism Monroe’s return alongside director and writer David Robert Mitchell. Monroe will play the same character and Mitchell will be directing and writing again. The studio behind the Oscar-winning movie Parasite, aka Neon, will co-produce and release the movie alongside the American Film Market. And original producers David Kaplan, Erik Rommesmo, Rebecca Green, and Laura Smith will be returning for They Follow.
Even though there are no details on the actual plot of They Follow, if you look back to the ending of It Follows there’s a clue. At the end when Jay and Paul are walking down the street hand in hand, there’s someone in the distance following them. Ever since the movie came out in 2014 theories have been circulating that the creature or supernatural force is still chasing them. And personally, I agree with them. There’s no way that a ragtag group of teenagers managed to destroy such a terrifying force with a pool and a bunch of electronics. There was also the gun but this is a supernatural force.
My only hope as someone who really likes Monroe is that she is surrounded by some of the originals from it follows. I’m not sure if Paul, played by Keir Gilchrist, will survive. His character would do absolutely anything for Jay. But I would like to see others like Kelly (Lili Sepe) And Yara (Olivia Luccardi) return. Because Jay isn’t going to be able to tackle this alone. Especially because I believe that there are more monsters like the one that was following her and the first movie. And if the sequel just so happens to have other victims trying to survive, it’s going to be a shitshow.
