The fourth season of Miss Scarlet and the Duke gave fans a lot of big emotions before it came to a close. Some of our wishlist for the season came true and some didn’t. Now, viewers can take stock and consider what we want to see in season 5 of Miss Scarlet and the Duke.
Season 4 of Miss Scarlet and the Duke was a big one. Both for the characters and for the fans. Eliza Scarlet (Kate Phillips) struggled through the process of becoming the first woman to lead London’s most successful private detective agency. In the Victorian era, she’s ahead of her time. The Eliza and William ship also made big strides. William Wellington (Stuart Martin) finally spoke his feelings for Eliza out loud, but he also left for a year-long work assignment in New York. He wanted to give them both space to decide how they want to balance work and their feelings for each other. Eliza ended up back in her father’s old office, with her name above the door, in the season finale. All of this made season 4 a more satisfying viewing experience than season 3.
So, what do we want to see now? After season 4 with all its big moments, what could be next? Well, we’re already invested in the future for Eliza, William, and the rest of the characters. We have some definite ideas about what should be in store for them in Miss Scarlet and the Duke season 5.
More Captivating Cases
The mysteries that Eliza and William solve in each episode are something that this series has always done well. There is always an interesting variety of stories behind the crimes. Sometimes there is a good women’s empowerment undertone to the investigation. Sometimes a case comes with memorable imagery, such as the one in episode 4×02. No matter what, the mystery is consistently engaging. This was on our wishlist for season 4 and we got it. So let’s keep that good track record going. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it, right? I hope that creator Rachael New and the other writers continue to come up with more intriguing crimes for Eliza and William to tackle. (Hopefully together, but I’ll get to that later.)
More Of The Appealing Supporting Characters
This was something that was also on our wishlist for season 4, and we sort of got it but not completely. We did get to spend time with Ivy (Cathy Belton), Mr. Potts (Simon Ludders), and Detective Fitzroy (Evan McCabe). But Moses (Ansu Kabia) did leave London and we missed him. Let’s bring him back for season 5! During season 3, Moses told Eliza that he left his home in Jamaica because someone from there was after him. Let’s see Eliza help him confront that trouble and deal with it for good. Moses was a great presence on this show and we want to see him stick around. As for Ivy and Mr. Potts, they’ve been engaged since season 3, so season 5 is the perfect time for their wedding. There hasn’t been a wedding on this show before so let’s do that! Besides that, let Detective Fitzroy keep growing and improving on the job. It’s nice to watch.
Eliza’s Business To Succeed
Season 3 ended with Patrick Nash (Felix Scott) offering Eliza a job running the London office of his agency. Our wish for Eliza’s professional life for season 4 was to refuse that offer. That didn’t happen. However, Eliza did move back to her father’s office in the aftermath of Nash’s confrontation with his brother’s killer in the season 4 finale. She also finally changed the name over the door from her fathers to her own. That’s a huge deal for her. The good and bad things she went through as the head detective at Nash and Sons led to her being ready to take that step. Of course, we know being a female private investigator in Victorian London will never be easy. But Eliza has proven she has what it takes to prosper. She is not only a talented detective, but she also made an effort in season 4 to be a better leader and businesswoman. We hope to see that pay off.
Eliza and William Together
That’s the simplest way we can phrase this wish. We want Eliza and William together, geographically and romantically. Season 4 was satisfying in so many ways that William’s absence in the final two episodes may be our only complaint. He was also gone for two episodes in the middle of season 3. Let’s not do that again. William took the important step of finally voicing his feelings for Eliza to her in 4×04. Season 5 is the time for Eliza to reciprocate. We know she feels the same, and she made big choices regarding her career in season 4. Eliza continuing to grow as a character by making the next move between them makes sense. After she admits her feelings to herself and him, Eliza and William can figure out how to manage their work. Fans of this show have a picture in their minds of these two as a couple, solving crimes together. And it’s a compelling picture, indeed. We want that to become a reality in season 5.
We know this list is similar to our wishlist for season 4 so I guess we’re easy to please. Miss Scarlet and the Duke is so enjoyable that we want more of it, and we have our fingers crossed for what we want in season 5.
