AMC continues to serve us some tasty Little Drinks (if you will) with great Interview with the Vampire Season 2 content ahead of the May 12 premiere, and the latest teaser is no different. This time around, the main focus is the vampire Santiago (Ben Daniels), commanding the stage as he tells his audience all about the laws of the vampire. Because it’s centered around coven rules, this particular promo is a great reminder for viewers that we should be more than a little bit concerned about Louis and Claudia after what they did last season. But, more importantly, it gives us a heads up that Daniels is ready to steal the show.
Everything about that sweeping bow very early in the teaser, and the wink directly at the camera not even 10 seconds later, just screams “Ben Daniels is going to own Interview with the Vampire Season 2.” Which, to be honest, we’re not at all surprised. For anyone unfamiliar with Daniels’ work, just know we watched the most recent season of Foundation, planning to make funnies about Empire’s apparent disdain for clothing, only to find ourselves completely emotionally wrecked by Daniels’ performance as Bel Riose. So, take that level of dramatic talent, mix it with the subtle over-acting required for Santiago’s onstage persona, and…yeah…this is going to be so good!
But wait! There’s more!
What about the laws of the vampire themselves? Well, that actually brings us back to our point about Claudia and Louis — Claudia especially. Her very existence is “in direct violation,” as Daniel puts it, of that inconvenient little rule about never giving the Dark Gift to children. Add the whole “no vampire may ever destroy another vampire” part in there. And, well…oops? Good luck to her. Or not.
In the teaser, Santiago poses the question: “Guilty? Or not guilty.” The only answer we have for that at this time is to say that Ben Daniels is definitely guilty of stealing the spotlight. It’s like he just can’t help it. And, let the record show, we wouldn’t want him to anyway.
