Elizabeth ‘Lee’ Miller is getting her biopic in Lee. The model turned photographer and war correspondent was pivotal in providing coverage during World War II. And we’re not talking about providing coverage as if she were reporting from home or the studio. No, she was on the ground, taking photos of what was really going on as a means of recording history for what it was: painful, scary, and more horrifying than you might ever think. And her photos, backed with the fact that she was working for Vogue as their war correspondent, gave her work weight and a platform to document what was happening during World War II.
In Lee, we’re taken through Miller’s life thanks to Kate Winslet (The Regime) playing the title character. But the official teaser seems to put a focus on the kind of work that Lee did during World War II, whether it was documenting explosions or the concentration camps. Andy Samberg (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) joins Winslet in Lee as David E. Scherman. He was a famed Jewish photographer who joined Miller and helped take one of the most controversial photos of World War II where Lee took a bath in Hitler’s bathtub. Other familiar faces joining the cast are Challengers star Josh O’Connor as Antony Penrose and Marion Cotillard as Solange D’Ayen.
