A trailer set to Taylor Swifts music feels a little like the norm these days, but we’re not complaining. Her 2020 album Folklore is one of our favorites and My Tears Ricochet is a deep and beautifully painful song. Hearing it in the trailer for It Ends With Us has us feeling all the feels immediately.
But we’re quickly looking past the song and getting lost in the trailer for the upcoming adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s book, It Ends With Us. The movie, starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, is one of the most anticipated of 2024.
The book follows Lily, who has had a traumatic childhood. She’s overcome a lot of her past and goes on to Boston, opening her own flower shop which has long been a dream for Lily.
Then, along the way she meets the handsome Ryle Kincaid, played by Baldoni. Her relationship starts to remind her of her parents tumultuous relationship. Then her first love, Atlas (Brandon Sklenar), returns into her life and her life is tossed into some chaos. She’s got to learn her own strength and to follow her path.
“If one day you had a daughter, what would you say to her if she came to you and she said the person she loved was hurting her,” Lily asks Ryle in the trailer below, “What would you say to her?”
And as the trailer ends, Lilys voice over says, “As hard as this choice is, we break the pattern, or the pattern breaks us.”
It Ends With Us finds its way into theaters on August 9th.
