Do you want to see even more from the story of Wrexham fans traveling from Patagonia to Wales to watch the Reds play at the infamous The Racecourse Ground? Welcome to Wrexham 3×06, “Far Away, So Close,” features about 8-10 minutes of the documentary presented by Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort, Wrexham AFC, and United Airlines. Now, the entire 28-minute heartwarming journey is available to watch.
From the producers of Welcome to Wrexham, ReUnited – A Homecoming Story tells the story of five Patagonian Wrexham fans – Matias Humphreys, David Mardones, Rocio Fernandez, and father and son Ricardo and Felipe Irianni – as they travel 7,604 miles via United. Not only do the fans make it to Wales in time to participate in the Welsh holiday St. David’s Day festivities, but they also experience a winning match at the historic Racecourse and meet the club’s co-chairman, Rob McElhenney.

ReUnited – A Homecoming Story’s context is a rich and necessary part of Welsh history that Reynolds narrates in “Far Away, So Close.” In short, in 1865, 154 Welsh people sailed to Chubut, where a small Welsh community continues to thrive. Many of the people in that Patagonian province have yet to visit Wales, but “United Airlines was determined to ReUnite members of this community with the land of their ancestors, and their beloved Wrexham AFC.”
Interestingly enough, Wrexham locals had set up a GoFundMe page in the past to help Mardones travel to Wales for a game. Still, the mission had been unsuccessful until this – Wrexham AFC’s partnership with United Airlines. Plus, this journey from Patagonia to Wales is the most recent result of the football club’s partnership with the airline.
Announced in June 2023, United became the official front-of-the-shirt sponsorship of Wrexham AFC’s men’s and women’s teams.
“We seek out sponsors that match the spirit of both Wrexham Association Football Club and the people of Wrexham,” co-chairmen Reynolds and McElhenney said in a video posted on social media last summer. “We could think of no better sponsor for the next phase of our quest than United Airlines. The team, town, and fans around the world are united as never before and United Airlines is committed to elevating our story and journey,” the duo added.
On May 21, 2023, United shared limited-edition Wrexham AFC amenity kits and pajamas that will be available starting today, Saturday, June 1. That collaboration celebrates Wrexham AFC’s promotion to League One and Welcome to Wrexham’s ever-growing popularity. Per United, the amenity kits include travel essentials like an eye mask, toothbrush, toothpaste, exclusive Therabody products, and pajamas designed to resemble the team’s uniforms.
With every new development in this partnership, it’s easy to anticipate what Wrexham AFC and United will do next in the 2024/2025 season, especially considering Welcome to Wrexham has been renewed for Season 4.
