Some movies are so bad, they are good and Space Cadet is one of those movies. Not sure as to what I expected, but when I saw the trailer all I could think was – this looks like a joyful hot mess. Some may consider this the start of a bad review, but it is not. I LOVED Space Cadet.
The truth is that as viewers, we all have a tendency to think that everything has to be Oscar worthy. Me – I enjoy those movies that are not that. I enjoy movies that are this big ball of craziness, that you wonder how someone made it, but you appreciate the fact that someone took a chance.
And Space Cadet is one of those movies.
Now, if you are one of those people that doesn’t know how to just let reality go and is looking for something that is “high brow” are you going to enjoy this movie? No. But to you I would say, learn to let go. But if you are one of those people that can love a movie for what it is and just enjoy the improbable? Well, yes. Space Cadet is for you.
Why should you watch it? Don’t worry, I have all the reasons.

EMMA ROBERTS
Some may think I am horrible for saying this, but I really haven’t watched a lot of movies that Emma has been in. I have seen some television shows that she has been in.
But seeing her in this movie, I couldn’t help but regret not watching more of her movies. She was absolutely fantastic in this movie. She was filled with energy, has great comedic timing, and comes across the screen so vibrantly. She is uber talented and we should all respect she’s not her aunt or her Dad – she’s Emma. And Emma is a fantastic actress.

THE HORRIBLE GRAPHICS/CGI
Sorry to all graphic and CGI people on this film, but it was just so bad that it was good. They were so bad that you couldn’t help but be reminded of what 90’s television shows were like. You remember every bad 90’s movie you’ve seen.
Especially when they are in space. Now, you may call that a spoiler, but if you do say that, I will also remind you that it’s a movie about space, so if you do think that it’s a spoiler, well, that’s on you.
I wouldn’t want to change one thing about the graphics and the CGI. The hot girl walks, the space exploration, the MARS simulations… it all had its place and we need to respect that. We need to respect the nostalgia.

NASA & SPACE TOURISTS
Now, I think that most of us have been fascinated with space for a long time. Even those of us that are not into science (me). There is something beautiful about not knowing what is out there.
Rex Simpson (Emma Roberts) is one of those people that has never lost her fascination with space. She’s always wanted to be an astronaut and going to her high school reunion reignited that passion.
When she asks her “Canva queen” bestie Nadine to make her application look better, she does just that. Only Nadine also embellishes her resume and doesn’t say anything to Rex.
So when Rex gets a call from Nasa that she’s been chosen for the astronaut training program, she’s shocked. She’s excited to. Now, as a viewer, I am a little shocked that NASA didn’t check the resume prior, but that’s part of what makes it so funny.
Everyone at NASA is unbelievable, but that is absolutely part of what makes this movie great. It’s part of what makes you able to laugh at this movie. It’s part of what makes you want to roll your eyes and also know that you are rolling them in the best way.
I mean the things that Rex is able to accomplish before NASA is able to check her resume is just everything.
And one can hope that NASA learns to check resumes prior to offering a position.

BEDAZZLE THAT SH**
One of the first calls that I made when I was done watching the movie was to my best friend, as I asked if she ever had a bedazzler, because if so she needs to keep it forever. A bedazzler can save a life.
It’s the off the wall ideas and the drama of them all that makes me love this movie. There are all sorts of characters in this movie that you find yourself looking at and feeling some pretty strong emotions about.
However that being said, when you find yourself connecting on any level to a source of entertainment, it is a good thing. It is the best thing to see all of these characters who are very different and you are embracing their quirks, and their ingenuity.
Creativity on every level is entertaining and all of these characters are creative in the most entertaining ways.

POPPY LIU
Not even gonna lie, I had no idea who Poppy Liu was and I am making an apology for that. Why? Because she’s a damn genius. A comedic genius. There isn’t a scene that she is in that you won’t find yourself laughing. She’s got such a presence on the screen and showcases that she can play many people (iykyk) at the same time. Watching this movie, I absolutely became a fan and will be looking up her filmography and watching everything. You can’t watch this movie and not find a love for her.
Her character of Nadine – though a supporting character, exuded main character energy, and that must be respected.
Space Cadet is streaming now on Prime Video. Watch It.
