Boasting a roster of internationally famous stars, Netflix‘s Wonderland takes viewers into a simulated universe where people can reunite with their departed loved ones. This video call service is called “Wonderland.”
The official trailer offers a first look at the visually stunning world. And the core themes are listed by Netflix as: the yearning to reconnect with loved ones, the pain of facing a sad reality, and the desperate need to protect family.
Wonderland grapples with these core themes across parallel storylines ranging from a mother hiding her death from her daughter and a woman reaching out to her boyfriend in space. And it makes clear that this will be a painful journey about grief, what it means to be human, and if this AI program is truly helping the ones we’ve lost.
Directed by Kim Tae Yong, it features actors such as Tang Wei, Suzy, Park Bo Gum, Jung Yu-mi, and Choi Woo Shik. It’s written by Kim alongside Min Ye-ji.
