Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn made an appearance together on the final day of the Democratic National Convention (DNC). And Scandal fans were being fed. Already we knew about Goldwyn being at the DNC because he took the stage on Day 2 of the convention. And from him walking on stage alone, fans were living for the President of the United States. Well, at least on Scandal.
The only thing missing was Washington.
Scandal fans knew she was around and they were ready for an Olitz reunion aka Olivia Pope and Fitzgerald Grant’s shipname. Even myself, who couldn’t stand the mess that Olitz caused together, remembered that their chemistry was electric. And it was due to the way that Washington and Goldwyn made every scene together feel like there was this gravitational force keeping them circling each other. A force that invited you to sit down and watch. Fans watched then from 2012 to 2018. And even I, someone who is not a fan of this ship, watched.
I watched again when Goldwyn ran on stage like a goober at the DNC when Washington needed her phone during day 4.
You would’ve thought that Beyoncé herself walked on stage with the way those in the room and online reacted. Sharing big smiles, Washington and Goldwyn hugged while the latter continued his goober behavior by waving at the crowd like it was the best day of his life.
What followed was Washington and Goldwyn glued to each other’s side as they ran around the stage. By this point, Olitz fans didn’t care what they were doing in this bit of the DNC. (Ok, maybe a little.) But it was the way that Goldwyn was looking at Washington, a hand around her waist that made Olitz fans lose it.
Fans were quick to call them “my president and his first lady.”
Or make comments about the amount of cheering they got.
Some even mentioned how the casting of these two on Scandal was the best thing to ever come out of TV.
But personally, the best comment came from user @ItsjustNylaah who said, “Okay someone get Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn in a rom com right now!”
And they’re right. If Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn have such great chemistry, why hasn’t Hollywood tapped that chemistry? Just imagine the kind of rom-coms fans of Olitz or romance could get. We’re thinking:
- A fake/pretend relationship between two reluctant strangers who meet during a New Years eve flight home and omg they are from the same town and have family hounding them about their future
- Or maybe two rival shop owners have a will they/won’t they going on in a small town where everyone thinks they’ll end up together. But they don’t because of a miscommunication in high school
- Washington plays a woman who rents a cottage somewhere in…Greece or something. On a ocean shore. She’s got a book deadline. And then she meets the locals. One of them is played by Goldwyn. Love follows cuz duh
- Single parents team up to conquer the ruthless PTA when their kids start elementary school. Love follows again cuz duh
The point being, these two have chemistry as actors and they could make magic again in a rom-com. So why not?
