You either die a hero, or you live long enough to become the villain. And in Jenn Trann’s case, she might be pretty close to becoming the villain in her own story. The Bachelorette 21×08 shows us a Jenn whose issues are finally coming to the front, as she basically self-sabotages with Devin, then gives way too much of herself with Marcus and sets herself up for, once again, being hurt.
And once again, feelings are valid. This is a pretty wild situation. I can’t imagine it and since I probably wouldn’t put myself into it, I will never have to. But I don’t get the vibe that Jenn doesn’t feel anything for Devin and is all in for Marcus, because if that were the case, then Jenn should absolutely be following her heart. Instead, it’s more that Jenn doesn’t really feel like she can trust the guy who is actually giving her healthy communication, reassurance, and love and must instead resort to asking for scraps from the guy who cannot give her what she wants and needs.

Basically, what my homegirl Jenn needs is therapy. We’ve all been there. Therapy is important. It’s just that she should have probably figured out she needed it before embarking on this journey and all.
So, back to the frustrating episode — Jonathon is there too! And he’s a nice guy, but he feels like such an afterthought in the mess that is Jenn and Devin and Jenn and Marcus. And the show keeps teasing Jen doing something “no Bachelorette has ever done,” which I’ve been drawing a blank on from the beginning, and at this point feels like it has to be telling Devin she cannot give him the reassurance he needs, moving on to a final two with Marcus and Jonathon and then changing her mind and going back to Devin?

I hope if that is what happens, it’s because that’s what Jenn wants and not because Devin is the only guy that’s sure. You also don’t want to end up married to someone because they’re the only person who is sure enough. Jenn doesn’t need to settle. But she’s had a pretty strong connection with Devin from the beginning, and she said the word “self-sabotage” when she was talking about him about a dozen times, so I think she recognizes what the problem is. It’s just that she kept on doing it anyway!
Marcus I can’t even blame, not fully. He was honest with his feelings, and Jenn just basically said “okay, you waved a red flag, but I like red flags. I can wear this red flag as a bandana!” So whatever, that’s not really on him at that point. He could have walked away, but I feel like he thinks there’s a connection, so he’s going to try. What he thinks he’s going to accomplish in a few days that they haven’t accomplished yet, I’m not sure, but he’s going to give it the old college try.
This is just …a wild show. It always has been. How can people be so sure about things after what is basically seeing each other a grand total of less than a day? Don’t ask me! But here they are, and their feelings are apparently strong enough to bring us this level of drama.
But thankfully, this season is almost over. And the best part? Tomorrow, we have the Men Tell All episode and it seems like everyone’s going to lay into Sam. I cannot wait. This is already the best episode of the season.
