Another month of live sports is upon us, and with that comes an equally impressive catalog of sports entertainment. Fall sports are almost back, with the 2024 NFL season kicking off on Thursday, September 5. Plus, there are not one but three Formula 1 Grand Prix competitions throughout September. Not to mention, the Paralympics Games Paris 2024 will have its closing ceremony on Sunday, September 8.
Beyond all those exciting events, a handful of other projects are coming to a TV near you this month, including new docuseries and the first season of FX’s American Sports Story. Luckily, we’ve got it all in one place, so you don’t have to miss a thing.
Tuesday, September 3: UNTOLD: Hope Solo vs. U.S. Soccer
UNTOLD: Hope Solo vs. U.S. Soccer is the third and final installment of the anthology docuseries UNTOLD Volume 4. It comes after UNTOLD: The Murder of Air McNair on Tuesday, August 20, and UNTOLD: Sign Stealer on Tuesday, August 27. Directed by Nina Meredith, UNTOLD: Hope Solo vs U.S. Soccer sees the USWNT goalkeeper unpack “the unique mix of glory and scandal that accompanied her rise to fame — fame that transcended her sport over two tumultuous decades,” per Netflix’s logline.
The one-minute trailer covers all three installments of Volume 4 and includes Solo saying, “One moment, one bad decision.” UNTOLD Volume 4 is executive produced by Chapman Way, Maclain Way; Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens, and Isabel San Vargas for Propagate; Ryan Duffy; LeBron James, Maverick Carter, Philip Byron, Jamal Henderson, Micah Brown and Jamie Elias for UNINTERRUPTED; Angus Wall for MakeMake.

Thursday, September 5: 2024 Summer Paralympics Games Closing Ceremony in Paris
The 2024 Summer Paralympics Games had their Opening Ceremony on Wednesday, August 28. The 17th international multi-sport parasports event will have its Closing Ceremony at the Stade de France in Paris on Tuesday, September 3.
The ceremony will celebrate the 4,400 Para athletes from the 168 Paralympic delegations in a three-hour show, beginning at 8:30 p.m. The parade will include the passing of the flag from Paris 2024 to Los Angeles 2028. Not to mention, the Closing Ceremony will honor the athletes’ achievements in a tribute to Parisian nights. 24 artists from all styles and generations of the French electronic scene will participate. They will come together under Thomas Jolly’s artistic direction and Victor le Masne’s musical direction.

Monday, September 9: The Money Game
The Money Game is an exclusive, all-access pass inside Louisiana State University Athletics during an unpredictable year of college athletics – the 2023-2024 season. “The docuseries examines a historic turning point in the NCAA upon policy changes on NIL rights—guaranteed to shape the trajectory of college sports forever—highlighted by the surreal experiences of LSU’s top players, coaches, and administrators,” per Prime Video’s logline.
With the backdrop of LSU, Louisiana’s flagship university that ranked third in the top-10 collegiate earners in NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) the past season, this docuseries profiles some of the most influential collegiate athletes.
The Money Game follows LSU gymnast and social media sensation Olivia Dunne; Tigers basketball star and The Bayou Barbie with an enterprising national brand, Angel Reese; SEC women’s basketball Freshman of the Year honorary and Roc Nation artist Flau’jae Johnson; LSU basketball star Trace Young, who has an impressive endorsement portfolio; Alia Armstrong, who is an elite hurdler for the Tigers with an “innovative approach to NIL; and Jayden Daniels, 2023’s Heisman Trophy winner for SEC football’s finest competitor and the 2024 NFL Draft’s second overall selection.
Drea Cooper directed The Money Game. Campfire Studios, Axios Entertainment, and Shaquille O’Neal’s Jersey Legends, a division of Authentic Studios, produced the docuseries. Ross Dinerstein, Rebecca Evans, and Ross Girard of Campfire Studios; Erica Winograd, Jim VandeHei, and Roy Schwartz of Axios Entertainment; Shaquille O’Neal, Colin Smeeton, and Michael Parris of Jersey Legends; and Brendan Daw and Drea Cooper executive produced the project.

Tuesday, September 17: American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez
American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez is the first installment of FX’s American Sports Story anthology series. The 10-episode limited series is based on the Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc. podcast from The Boston Globe and Wondery. With Josh Rivera in the titular role, American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez “charts the rise and fall of the NFL superstar” and “explores the disparate strands of his identity, his family, his career, his suicide, and their legacy in sports and American Culture,” per FX’s logline.
The series also stars Jaylen Barron as Shayanna Jenkins, Lindsay Mendez as Tanya Singleton, Ean Castellanos as D.J. Hernandez, Tammy Blanchard as Terri Hernandez, Patrick Schwarzenegger as Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, and Norbert Leo Butz as Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez is executive produced by Ryan Murphy, Stuart Zicherman, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson and Carl Franklin. Hernan Lopez and Marshall Lewy of Wondery also serve as executive producers alongside Linda Pizzuti Henry and Ira Napoliello of The Boston Globe. 20th Television produces the series.
American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez premieres Tuesday, September 17 at 10/9c on FX and streams on Hulu the next day.
Tuesday, September 24: Evolution of the Black Quarterback
A new three-part documentary about the history and impact of Black quarterbacks on and off the field is coming to Prime Video this month. From SMAC Productions and directed by SMAC’s FredAnthony Smith, Evolution of the Black Quarterback premieres on Tuesday, September 24. Retired NFL Pro Bowl quarterback Michael Vick travels across the U.S. and interviews some of the most influential Black QBs, including Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, Cam Newton, Dak Prescott, Russell Wilson, Donovan McNabb, James “Shack” Harris, Warren Moon, and Doug Williams.
Evolution of the Black Quarterback “pays homage to the rich history, celebrates the progress, and sets its sights on the future of the QB position. The highlights are incredible, and the story of the players who fought for their right to be on the field are inspiring…,” per Prime Video’s description. The docuseries will feature commentary from celebrities and other football stars, including Common, Deion Sanders, Larry Wilmore, Steve Young, Josh Allen, and Jamie Foxx.
SMAC Productions produces Evolution of the Black Quarterback in association with NFL Films and Fubo Studios. The executive producers include Michael Strahan, Constance Schwartz-Morini and FredAnthony Smith of SMAC Entertainment.
Friday, September 27: Rez Ball
Rez Ball is about the Chuska Warriors in the heart of Chuska, New Mexico. From Springhill Company Production, Wise Entertainment Production, Chernin Entertainment, and Lake Ellyn Entertainment Production, Rez Ball was co-written by Sterlin Harjo & Sydney Freeland, directed by Freeland, and produced by LeBron James. The movie is inspired by Canyon Dreams: A Basketball Season on the Navajo Nation by Michael Powell and Powell’s New York Times article that led to the book.
After a devastating loss, the basketball team “must unite like never before to keep their dreams of a state championship alive. This is more than just a game; it’s a journey of resilience and unity, a true underdog story deeply rooted in Native American culture,” per Netflix’s synopsis. The streamer released first-look photos and the trailer earlier this month. Rez Ball stars Kauchani H. Bratt, Jessica Matten, Kusem Goodwind, Julia Jones, Amber Midthunder, Kiowa Gordon, Dallas Goldtooth, Cody Lightning, Ernest Tsosie, Devin Sampson Craig, River Rayne Thomas, Jojo Jackson, Avery Hale, Hunter Redhorse Arthur, Henry Wilson Jr., Jaren K. Robledo, Damian Castellane, and Zoey Reyes.
