I am not even going to sugarcoat it. I am afraid of this casting and it’s not because I don’t love the idea of Jesse Lee Soffer boarding FBI: International. I think he’s great. I am afraid because if I dare say anything bad about him … well, let’s just say I’ve seen what happened to people who wrote about him when he starred in Chicago P.D., and that scares me.
You see, I don’t hold my tongue and I don’t sugarcoat. So what do I think of Soffer’s casting?
If we’re being honest in the beginning, I was so confused as to what was happening with FBI: International. There is just so much recasting and people leaving. It’s a show that has taken the time to reinvent itself, but then at the same time made the viewer wonder if there is any stability there.
As time has gone on, I’ve become more and more excited for the casting of Soffer. I think that I love this show so much, that he’ll be a good addition and a way to grow it. He will also grow the show’s audience.
Today, TV Line premiered the first look at Soffer as Agent Wes Mitchell. Mitchell is described as, “charming and rakish, an agent whose impeccable instincts and unconventional tactics fuel his drive to stop at nothing to achieve justice.”
We won’t see him when the show returns with the Fly Team. We’ll see him in Los Angeles working with a “tourism robbery” crew and experiencing issues with his girlfriend.
At the end of last season, Luke Kleintank left the show abruptly and made fans wonder what was happening. He was the third cast member to leave that season. Colin Donnell stepped in for the last two episodes and did a fabulous job. But here we are, with Soffer’s casting, wondering what does it mean. What role is he playing?
We do know that he won’t be playing Detective Jay Halstead. Yes, it’s a Wolf Entertainment show, but that doesn’t mean that he needs to play the same character, we get that. Yet, we’d like to know who he’s going to be, a little about his character, and what brings him to the Fly Team.
We’d also like to know on a separate note are we going to see more of Brian Lange (Colin Donnell)?
Whomever Soffer plays, I am warning you now, I am only seeing him as that character. Whatever ship comes or doesn’t come, that’s the only ship I am caring about. Chicago P.D. is great and I will always love Upstead, but I am ready for this new journey.
