Fandom life is complicated. There’s a lot of hyperfixation to it. Even when there’s really nothing to hyperfixate. That’s us with the 9-1-1 Season 8 trailer. It might just be because all we’ve had before this has just been bees and Eddie’s questionable mustache. And we’ve all made a great deal of unadvisable jokes about both, but we were reaching the end of the line there. We needed something else. And now, we finally have it. Actual footage!
So, yes, we have replayed it a questionable number of times. And there might be some things we’ve paused on. And, you know, screenshotted for further examination. And we’re overthinking the song choice, too. We like to be thorough and all. So, without further ado, here are 5 details about the 9-1-1 Season 8 trailer we can’t stop thinking about:
Angela Bassett’s Arms

No, but seriously. When Athena gets out of her car, if you weren’t looking at her arms, then what were you even looking at? Let us all worship at the altar of Angela Bassett for a moment here. How lucky are we to have this amazing actress playing in the sandbox of this silly little procedural show (and I say this with a lot of love for the silly little procedural show in question)? An Oscar and Emmy winner!
But, also …those arms! I’d kill for those arms, I’m not even kidding.
The Lack of Proper Handling For Those Killer Bees
If you’re transporting killer bees, you’d think there would be a lot more security involved in the transportation and that they couldn’t get loose so easily. Like, I know this is a TV show and we gotta suspend disbelief, but come on! Like, let’s at least pretend there was some level of extra security here that failed. I know this is the same LA that got hit by a tsunami a few years ago and is doing perfectly well now, so that might be asking too much, but just …for me?
Buck Saying “It’s a Bee-Nado”

If anyone was going to say it, it was going to be Buck. So it’s not like we’re surprised. More like, we’re a little worried! It feels a bad omen to say it out loud. It also feels very suspect to be seeing so many bees. Like Eddie’s (Ryan Guzman) mustache, it feels like the show is trying to distract us from what’s really going on. Is the real emergency …something else? Granted, this is a lot of bees, but is it enough for a three-episode arc? Also, can we talk about Eddie going “maybe they’ll just fly away?” Yeah, sure dude. Maybe I’ll just wake up tomorrow with a million dollars! Both are about as likely.
All the Series Regulars Are Present — Except Christopher
The trailer gives us a glimpse at most of the series regulars — Athena is driving somewhere and comes across the swarm, Bobby is clearly in the middle of the filming of Hotshots, Buck, Eddie, Hen, and Chim are working, Maddie is in dispatch taking the call about the bee-nado …and yet we don’t get a glimpse of Christopher. The cast list for Season 8 still lists Gavin McHugh as a series regular, so we can surely expect to see Christopher return from Texas sooner rather than later, despite how 9-1-1 Season 7 ended. But considering the emergency in LA, maybe it’s a good thing he’s not around? Let’s hope he doesn’t pick this moment to decide to come back.
The Crisis Stache Doesn’t Look Better In Live-Action

Sorry, not sorry. I remain unconvinced about the stache, and now I’ve seen it in live-action and I remain who I am …a girl, who thinks the crisis stache will serve its purpose and then, it can go. It was fun in that one shot of Eddie running around in the bee suit! And hopefully, everyone makes fun of Eddie for it. But, eh, please no more than four episodes of it. I’m begging here.
