This writer won’t soon forget when she got a text message with a poster featuring B.J. Britt, Jonathan Bennett, and Tyler Hynes faces – saying that they were speaking on a panel together. Twenty seconds later, Twitter (won’t call it X, so don’t try to correct me) was a buzz of people talking about it. This was all two minutes before the news of The Groomsmen exploded all over the blogs of the internet.
Don’t even get us started on Facebook groups reaction.
Well, well, we have to admit the excitement was there immediately. B.J. Britt, Jonathan Bennett, and Tyler Hynes in a movie together? It was as if we were being threatened with a good time and we didn’t know how to say it without sounding somewhat NSFW – we are always down for a good time.
In the movie trilogy, we’re getting a look at three best friends who support each other on the biggest days of their lives. In the movie B.J. Britt stars as Pete, who is a “kind-hearted pediatrician with a penchant for planning.” We also have Jonathan Bennett as Danny, a “baseball coach with a heart of gold.” Tyler Hynes stars as Jackson, who is a “stylish and charming social media agent.”
We KNOW we are going to get so much goodness from this trilogy. We’re thinking that the only missed opportunity that we are going to get is that it wasn’t filmed paritally on the Carnival Firenze (if you watch Jonathan Bennetts social media, you know what the means).
But why is it that we’re looking forward to this trilogy?
THREE GREAT ACTORS
We are kinda mushy when it comes to certain things and our favorite Hallmark actors – we admit that they definitely make that list. B.J. Britt, Jonathan Bennett, and Tyler Hynes – individual they’re great, but all together they’ve got to be out of this world.
Over the past few years we’ve gotten to know a lot of people in the Hallmark fandom and when The Groomsmen Trilogy was announced, we took to Facebook groups immediately. There was definitely talk about three hot actors all together, we’re there.
But there was something that really stuck out to us. One person commented that the world is always changing, things are chaotic, but Hallmark is the one thing that keeps me grounded. Talking back and forth with that user, we talked about the movies that changed us. The movies that were there for us. The movies that changed us.
From The Holiday Stocking to Christmas on Cherry Lane to It Was Always You – these actors have made an impact by the movies that they’ve chosen to do. So the chance to see them all together? We’re about it and we know that so many others are too.
WEDDINGS – WHO DOESN’T LOVE THEM?
This writer is a cynic that really doesn’t believe in love, but loves a wedding. With a lot of movies the view we get from a wedding is about the females point of view and not the male point of view. So, intrigued? Yes.
The Groomsmen is a trilogy that is about three best friends standing next to each other on the biggest day of their lives. We’re looking forward to seeing how they support each other, but also how they guide each other through the ups and downs of relationships.
We don’t expect smooth sailing – this is a movie series after all.
We know that relationships of all kinda are complicated, but seeing friends help each other to the altar is definitely going to be priceless. We’re guessing that these three will be the type of friends who tell the hard truths, allow each other to try and figure out their own path, and then step in when needed.
We can’t wait to see them all get married.
THE LOCATIONS
We admit, we failed on the capturing of all the social media content that these three put out when filming the trilogy, but we knew that something amazing was going on. Yes, we use the word amazing because it was partially filmed in Greece. And we do know Greece is amazing.
The thing about television and movies is that we want an escape. We want to feel like we are taking a vacation from our lives and there are bonus points if we are on vacation.
HOPEFULLY UNDERSTANDING A MANS MIND
There are so many that will say that a woman is complicated, but we’d tell you that a man is more complicated. They rarely say what they really think, you have to try to interpret their every movement, and even then every mans language is different, so you are probably off.
So, yes, we’re hoping to learn more about seeing things from the male gaze.
We come across so many men that we know, who say that they don’t watch Hallmark and we know that they are liars. They watch them with their partners or alone. They deserve to have something from the male POV.
But men watching aside, we also deserve to have something from the male POV. We want to see their struggles, their longing, their happiness, their insecurities, and their joy.
We want to see the male mind exploring friendships, relationships, and everything else that life has to offer. All so often we only seem to get that in relationship to work. We want to see men have the feelings of falling in love and falling apart. We want to see men trying to piece together their feelings. We want to see them experiencing an array of emotions.
While we know that we’ll never fully understand a male mind (sorry, not sorry, it’s just very complex), we’re looking forward to understanding these characters. Who knows, they may offer some of the men in our lives some redemption, because we’ll understand the stupid things that they do.
EVERYTHING CHANGING ON HALLMARK
A few years ago, we would have told you that nothing on Hallmark will ever change, and it’s always going to be the same way for a reason. What that reason is – who knew. BUT, we’re standing here, eating our words – proudly.
Hallmark is changing and that’s a beautiful thing. They know that times are always changing and that people should be able to see themselves on the screen – it doesn’t matter who you are. Hallmark is taking stories and integrating storylines that are important to people.
They are showing the diversity of people and relationships. It’s so beautiful to see that they want people to see that they are loved and that they deserve love. Seeing the way that Hallmark is growing and changing, we can only believe that with The Groomsmen they are going to give us something innovative and new.
We can’t wait to see how The Groomsmen changes the game.
