It is that time of the year where Christmas movies are vast and abundant. We’re definitely not complaining about that, because as you know, we absolutely love all of them. We especially do love a Christmas movie that is based off something/anything having to do with Charles Dickens. That being said though, we’re always a little weary, unless that Dickens inspired movie is done by Hallmark.
Yet, this one is not Hallmark. A Dickens of a Christmas, though, we’re intrigued. The movie is set to star Ashley Newbrough (Love For Christmas) and Chad Rook (Virgin River). Written by Catherine Friday and and directed by Gillian McKercher, the movie is launching at MIPCOM (in Cannes).
Now, we’re familiar with both of the actors, which always makes us interested. The premise though? We’re intrigued, but it doesn’t sound like a movie that we’re going to stop everything for, because it does sound like every Christmas movie thrown into a bowl and they decided to pull out the best tropes to create something.
The premise is, “Zara (Newbrough), a busy lawyer burdened by painful Christmas memories and lacking time for romance. Her best friend Chloe (Kaya Coleman) persuades her to attend a Victorian Dickens Christmas dinner at a historic home, where she meets Rafe (Rook), a single dad and hockey coach with a passion for renovating old houses. The historic home, however, harbors the ghost of Rafe’s ancestor, Aubrey (Mark Bellamy), who takes it upon himself to play matchmaker between Zara and Rafe, providing Zara with a magical book of Dickensian love stories that challenges her skepticism.”
What do you think? Does it sound interesting to you? Will you watch? Tell us all the things.
