Matty takes on even more responsibility at Jacobson Moore in Matlock Season 1, Episode 4, “The Rabbit and the Hawk.” Understandably, Olympia turns to the new hire for assistance. After all, Matty’s success in trying her first case in decades in Matlock Season 1, Episode 3, “A Guy Named Greg,” got their client a $9 million verdict. This time, Olympia wants Matty to get closer to a client seeking justice after the wrongful death of his wife.
The photos and promo don’t reveal too much about the case. However, it does show Olympia saying, “This place is a viper’s nest,” and Matty saying, “You can trust me.” The settings of those scenes make it seem like they aren’t connected, but Matty is likely talking to Olympia. The titular character has been adamant about getting Olympia on her side from Matlock Season 1, Episode 2, “Rome, in a Day” – only then can Matty access the information she needs.
While that plan seems to be working one step (and stolen laptop) at a time, another aspect of Matty’s quest for justice is in jeopardy. Written by Jeffrey Lieber and directed by Kat Coiro, “The Rabbit and the Hawk” will see Matty’s husband, Edwin, confront her about Alfie’s involvement in everything. The promo video shows Matty in what could be the case files archive, searching for something related to the hidden documents. She calls Alfie, which pulls him out of school, and Edwin isn’t okay with that.
Considering that Matlock only shows Matty’s grandson when he’s helping her with her plan, it’s not unreasonable for Edwin to be concerned about how that impacts Alfie’s life. “Rome, in a Day” sets this storyline up with Alfie putting (slightly) less energy into his homework than he does his research for his grandmother. “The Rabbit and the Hawk” – the second episode to air after Matlock’s Season 2 renewal – will see how that unfolds.
