This week’s 9-1-1: Lone Star began on a light note with Nancy sending everyone at the firehouse a NSFW picture but quickly took a dark turn. Nancy and Owen both dealt with some difficult situations in “Naked Truth”, and Tommy learns some devastating news. We review.

Mammograms are So Important!
We thought “Naked Truth” might be a fun episode based on the way it started with Nancy accidentally sending the wrong picture to the entire house. As Marjan put it, those were not the “breasts she meant to send.” So, then Nancy and Mateo spent a good deal of time trying to get the picture erased off everyone’s phones. They came up with pretty elaborate stories for why they needed phones, but Owen saw right through it. Of course he did. But they didn’t get to Tommy before she saw the picture, and it’s a good thing she did.
Tommy noticed a lump and told Nancy to get a mammogram. Statistically speaking, Nancy is young to have cancer since she’s 35, but she has a family history. She gets a mammogram, and luckily, the lump is a benign cyst. But now she knows that she needs to get routine mammograms especially since her mom and other members of her family died of breast cancer.
We’re glad that the show did this story. As Mateo said, preventative medicine is important. Maybe this will help viewers realize they need to get that mammogram they’ve been putting off. Or do a self-exam. Or talk to their doctors about any concerns they may have. However, we are not happy about the second part of this story.

Tommy’s Health
Tommy makes an appointment for a mammogram at the same time and place as Nancy in “Naked Truth”. Honestly, we just thought she did it so she could be with Nancy and give her support. But it turns out Tommy really did need a mammogram. And while Nancy was given good news, Tommy was not. She has breast cancer. Why did the writers decide to give Tommy this on the show’s last season? And right on top of her breakup? Maybe getting the mammogram caught the cancer early? Or at least before it spread?
We just can’t imagine losing Tommy. That can’t be how the show ends, right? With the 126 losing an amazing Captain and Tommy’s daughter’s losing their last parent? Ugh. We were not prepared for this. At all.

Other Thoughts:
- Animals are so special. They have amazing instincts and can sense when something is wrong. Thunder could sense Owen’s guilt over his brother’s death. And without Thunder and the dog, Owen may not have figured out there was a gas leak until it was too late.
- We love Mateo and Nancy’s relationship even more after this episode. Mateo knew when to ask Tommy to help Nancy because he wasn’t who she needed at that moment. And he was willing to shave his head to make Nancy feel better if she did have to go through chemo.
- We’re proud of Rudy for helping Officer Garcia. Wyatt trusted him not to escape without the other man, and he didn’t break that trust.
