9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5 episode 9 ‘Fall From Grace’ was the best episode we’ve had in a while. We’d go as far to say it was our favorite so far this season. The episode continued last week’s investigation into Campbell which led to a very interesting twist. Owen also stepped up this week to help Judd when he needed a friend. We review.

Learning the Truth
9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5 episode 9 ‘Fall From Grace’ spent a great deal of time trying to track down Campbell after he ran at his son’s birthday party. Campbell’s wife swears she didn’t know anything about his illegal activities or where he was headed. Sure, that’s what they all say. But, anyway, they learn Campbell is in Mexico and go after him. We were convinced Campbell was crooked and responsible for Carlos’ dad’s death. Right up until the Chief basically begged Carlos to kill Campbell. We figured out at about the same time Carlos did that Campbell wasn’t behind all of this; the Chief was. He killed Gabriel and framed Campbell for it.
So why did Campbell go to Mexico if he wasn’t guilty? Because he knew the Chief was framing him, and he needed time to figure out what to do next. While we applaud him for being smart enough to figure out he was being framed, running off to Mexico probably wasn’t his brightest move. But it all ended well for him. And honestly? We’re relieved. We can go back to liking Campbell now, and he even has a sense of humor. “I wonder if there’s a gift basket for ‘Sorry I stabbed you’.” We also admire his wife’s loyalty. That look that she gave Carlos at the hospital? Man. If looks could kill…

Owen leaving the 126?
At the beginning of 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5 episode 9 ‘Fall From Grace,’ Owen received an offer to return to the NYFD. It seems like he was always meant to return to New York, and this is a good way to end Owen’s story. We really do think Owen will take the offer, but he ends up turning it down. At least for now.
After a night out with Judd, Owen sees how much Judd has been drinking and realizes he needs help. Owen was great in these scenes. He asked Owen directly if he had been drinking on the job (we believed Judd when he said no), and then he listened as Judd talked about what’s been going on. Owen also made Judd take a shower and go to an AA meeting.
We feel for Judd. Of course he misses Grace. His life is so much better with her. But drinking isn’t a healthy coping mechanism, and he needs help before it gets worse. He’s lucky to have Owen, and we enjoyed seeing Owen and Judd’s friendship. Hopefully, Judd will be okay. His co-workers and family depend on him. And we care about him, too.

Where Do We Go From Here?
So now Carlos has to decide what to do now that he knows the truth about his dad’s killer. Can he start to heal? We know he’ll never truly be the same because you never get over losing a loved one, especially your father. But we look forward to him moving forward in his new normal with TK. And being a dad to TK’s younger brother.
Will Owen leave for New York later after Judd gets better? It seems like that’s where the show is headed. We want Judd to lead the 126; it’s his calling. As Owen said, he’s just been keeping the seat warm for him all of these years.
9-1-1: Lone Star will return in January with the final three episodes. We can’t wait to see how the show ends, but we’re also sad that we have to say goodbye to these characters.
9-1-1: Lone Star airs Mondays at 8/7c on FOX.
