Friendship is this weird thing. You pick someone in life to tell all your secrets to and you move forward. You try your best to never let them down and to always be honest with them. The one thing that you never would do is sleep with their significant other. Nope, you definitely don’t do that.
But here we are and things happen in the second episode of Laid that are going to lead AJ and Ruby down a path that I am not sure that they are ready for. You see, a wedding and some alcohol and weed lead Ruby to sleeping with Zach – AJ’s ex.
There was a lot happening in this episode and yet it felt a little slow. Do I understand that they are setting things up, exploring AJ and Ruby’s lives, and still giving us the ex that passed away? Yes. But I also think that we’re dancing on the edge of Ruby and AJ’s friendship ending and that I can’t get behind.
Sorry, not sorry.
AJ is convinced that there is something weird going on with Ruby’s exes. Ruby doesn’t want to believe it and TBH, who would. Not me. But – as much as she wants to deny it – something is happening.
A wedding is coming up. It’s Ruby’s ex – Robert. AJ’s man, Zach, is convinced that wearing a kimono is the way to go and that’s the last thing that AJ wants him to do. He won’t listen though, and the two end up breaking up. Not sad about that at all. Love that AJ is resilient and doesn’t seem to be bothered about it at all.
She’s more interested in figuring out why some of Ruby’s exes are dying. Especially when they are watching a baseball game and one of her exes gets hit with a ball and dies. There is something happening. We all just have to figure out what.
Ruby doesn’t want to believe what is happening, but its getting to her. She starts going to all these different gynos and asking if there is something wrong with her vagina that could, you know, kill people. Like maybe there is an STD that comes out of no where or has like a delayed release?
You can’t help but laugh at Ruby and the way that she seems apprehensive about her vagina. It’s hilarious, because it’s absurd. However, I don’t think that I would laugh so much about it if it wasn’t for Stephanie Hsu playing her. She’s just got this beautiful innocence that makes Ruby so believable.
The gyno’s all tell Ruby that her vagina is perfectly healthy – which thank God. But it doesn’t mean that she isn’t going to worry.
The only person that Ruby seems to feel comfortable around is Isaac – her client. You can tell that she has a crush, but there is something about her that seems to calm down when he’s there. She’s enjoying working on his families party and making sure that everyone gets a plus one to the party.

I love that Isaac doesn’t seem to judge her, but listens. She needs someone to listen and not judge her for the weirdness of her mind and instead finds it endearing. She needs that. And even though he’s got a girlfriend, I still believe that there is the possibility of these two being together.
Only I don’t want Isaac to die, so that can’t happen.
AJ and Ruby go to the wedding – which is in the middle of nowhere and though it’s beautiful – no one would be able to drag me out into the middle of the woods – even for a wedding.
I don’t know what Ruby wants to go to her exes wedding, but here she is. When she goes to talk to Robert, she makes it about herself. Now, I would like to state that Ruby isn’t in the wrong here (well maybe a little). Her questions are valid, but the timing. You don’t ask what was wrong with you at a wedding. Not ok.
All the questions lead to Ruby spending time with AJ’s ex, and waking up in bed with him. She broke girl code. She had sex with AJ’s ex – Zach. This is not good. Not even close to good.
She and Zach both say that they are not going to tell AJ, but for Ruby this is the first secret that she’s ever kept from AJ and that’s a lot. Keeping a secret from her bestie isn’t something that she ever wanted to do. It is something that will eat her up inside.
When she gets home – after avoiding AJ – she finds out that AJ and Zach got back together. This is not good. It’s only going to make things more complicated.
To make matters worse, AJ tells her that she missed Roberts announcement at the wedding – he’s dying. He’s got lymphoma. He made the announcement in his speech that Ruby wasn’t around to listen to.
Things are definitely very complicated, but we’re hooked and definitely paying attention.
Laid is really good and a show that you should be watching. It’s streaming now on Peacock.
