Are you going to have to hear us talking about Children of Blood and Bone for a long time? Yes. Why? The book is fantastic. Any other reason? Well yes, we’re glad you asked. With todays announcement of the cast it shouldn’t shock anyone that we’re all in.
Leading the action fantasy film are Thuso Mbedu as Zelie; Amandla Stenberg as Amari; Damson Idris as Inan; and Tosin Cole as Tzain.
Also confirmed are Academy Award® winner Viola Davis as Mama Agba; Cynthia Erivo as Admiral Kaea; Idris Elba as Lekan; Lashana Lynch as Jumoke; and Chiwetel Ejiofor as King Saran.
As if all of those names are not enough, also in talks to join the adaptation are Academy Award® winner Regina King as Queen Nehanda; Diaana Babnicova as Folake; and Bukky Bakray as Binta.
There is also an open casting call in Nigeria.
Phenomenal. We’ll give them all of our money and we’ll give it to them now.

In Children of Blood and Bone, by Tomi Adeyemi, “in an African fantasy kingdom, a young woman goes on a quest to reclaim the magic that was violently stolen from her people. She and her brother ally with the daughter and son of the king to fight back against his brutal rule.”
The movie, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Gina Prince-Bythewood and is set to start filming in South Africa in the coming weeks.
Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen of Temple Hill Entertainment, together with Karen Rosenfelt of Sunswept Entertainment – the filmmaking team behind the Twilight series – will produce, alongside Matt Jackson of Jackson Pictures. Adeyemi and Reggie Rock Bythewood will executive produce. Adeyemi and Prince-Bythewood co-wrote the script.
Mark the premiere date on your calendar (we did). The movie will be out January 15th, 2027 in IMAX.
