Raise your hand if you felt victimized by CBS when they canceled Blue Bloods. You can’t see my hand, but I assure you it is raised. Blue Bloods was/is an institution and I am not ashamed to admit I would DVR it every week. No offense meant to the Reagan family, but this girl doesn’t stay up til 10 pm to watch anything.
The best part of Blue Bloods was the feeling of family. Yes, we know the Reagans were family, but I am talking about the online community that it built. A big part of that community stemmed from the Blockhead family. Blockheads are fans of New Kids on the Block and Donnie Wahlberg, who starred as Danny Reagan is a member of the band.
With Friday night’s DVR recordings changing with Blue Bloods ending – I know that I wouldn’t have thought that anything else was coming. I think all of us have heard about the possibility of a spin-off for a bit, but didn’t think that was going to happen. What can I say, I’m a little jaded.
So imagine my surprise when CBS is like you are wrong, you were wrong. They didn’t actually say that but I heard it in my head. The channel picked up Boston Blue (it’s a working title) for the 2025 – 2026 season. The name, I don’t really like, because I want to call it Rookie Blue and I don’t want to screw that up.
Now the new show will be set in Boston, which makes perfect sense for Donnie Wahlberg. The actor is a proud Bostonian and always has been that. Danny Reagan isn’t though. Danny Reagan is a proud New Yorker, so I am confused as to why he would accept a position out of the city of New York.
WAIT, A REAGAN IN BOSTON?
I am confused. Is Danny Reagan a changed man? Meaning – does he like the Red Sox now? I can’t with that possibility.
In Boston Blue, “Danny Reagan takes a position with Boston PD. Once in Boston, he is paired with Detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.”
What the actual {bleep}! We needed Danny and Baez to become a couple. We being me, but look, the ship has spoken to me. I don’t mean offense Detective Peters, but Baez you will never be.
I love that there have been so many moments that CBS has listened to all the backlash that came from the cancellation of Blue Bloods. After it was said that a spin-off possibility was Texas, I am also glad that Danny Reagan isn’t moving to Texas, cause that I couldn’t support.
What? It’s good to have boundaries.
Boston Blue wasn’t originally a Blue Bloods spin-off. The person who was supposed to be Peters’s new partner was going to come from the LAPD. Apparently, people started to realize that the East Coast is the best coast.
But being serious for a moment, we’re hoping that they realized what a commodity Donnie Wahlberg is. It really feels like it could be a great step for Wahlberg to show off his love for all things Boston.
We’ll support this show and our love for all things Donnie Wahlberg and Blue Bloods.
What do you think? Are you excited for this show?
