It is that time of year when we’re wondering what television shows are getting renewed and which ones are canceled. We kind of feel like television has given us a fear of commitment. When it comes to the Fox television show, DOC, we’ve been afraid of what would happen next.
Luckily, DOC decided to be kind to us and not make us want to cry. The powers that be have renewed the show for a second season and given it A LOT more episodes. 22 episodes total to be exact.
“We are thrilled that audiences have embraced Season 1 of Doc,” Fox Television Network President Michael Thorn said. “Barbie and Hank have done an outstanding job bringing one of the most emotionally powerful series on television to life. Renewing for a second season was an easy decision, thanks to this incredible team, our partners at Sony, and an exceptional cast, led by the talented Molly Parker.”
When the first season of the show only got 10 episodes, a full-season order for the second season is almost unheard of. However, we’re really excited about it. The best part for us – besides our emotional investment in this show – is that the show is led by a female. Women support women and we’re so glad to see shows like DOC succeeding.
“We’re ecstatic Doc has been picked up for a second season – a testament to the exceptional writing, captivating performances from our talented cast, and the incredible reception from audiences,” Katherine Pope, President of Sony Pictures Television Studios, said in a statement to Deadline, “We’re so grateful to our partners at Fox for their unwavering support as we continue making more episodes of this show!”
If you aren’t familiar with Doc, it is about, “a brain injury erases the last eight years of Dr. Amy Larsen’s life, she must navigate an unfamiliar world where she has no recollection of patients she’s treated, colleagues she’s crossed, the soulmate she divorced, the man she now loves or the tragedy that caused her to push everyone away. She can rely only on her estranged 17-year-old daughter, whom she remembers as a 9-year-old, and a handful of devoted friends, as she struggles to continue practicing medicine, despite having lost nearly a decade of knowledge and experience.”
Congratulations to the cast and crew on their renewal! Patrick Walker, Anya Banerjee, Omar Metwally, Molly Parker, Jon Ecker, Amirah Vann, and Scott Wolf – we can’t wait to get to know your characters better.
We’re so excited for a second season. Are you?
