The Last of Us season 2 has finally dropped it’s official trailer. The moment happened during a panel at South by Southwest (SXSW) featuring Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, Gabriel Luna, Young Mazino, Craig Mazin, and Neil Druckmann.
In the 2 minute and 7 second trailer we’re treated to another haunting look at what comes next for Joel and Ellie. But it’s more clear than ever that the seven-episode season 2 is going to allow Ellie to blossom past Joel. It’s also going to expose Joel’s secret. He chose her over everyone else. Over the Fireflies. Over a cure. And that choice, that path, it has a price.
Question is, who will pay for it?
The Last of Us season 2 also shows a bunch of different clickers. We saw Tommy fighting a Bloater who looks to have made into their home. There was also a hint of shamblers and clickers who expel spores. And let’s not forget that stalker in the opening moments of the trailer, sneaking up on its prey. Finally, the runners and the classic clicker, but this time coming out of the snow like they’ve been in waiting.
While we’re getting all these big action shots, we’re also getting perspective. At the end of the world, there are other societies that have formed. And unfortunately for us, some of them have been shaped by Joel’s actions. They’ve lost people because of his choices. And to them, he’s the monster in night that took away their loved ones. That’s what we got when Tati Gabrielle’s character asked Ellie, “Don’t you know what he did?”
We do. And that path, it has a price.
