The John Wick universe continues to expand, and this time it does so with Ballerina, a highly anticipated spin-off starring Ana de Armas. This film will maintain the franchise’s signature brutal and stylized action while introducing a lethal new heroine.
The story of Ballerina is set chronologically between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3: Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4. Ana de Armas plays Eve Macarro, a dancer who has been trained since childhood in the deadly arts by the Ruska Roma criminal organization, the same organization that introduced John Wick to the world of professional assassination. The plot revolves around Eve’s quest for revenge after her family is murdered. This mission will lead her to confront dangerous enemies.
The cast is full of familiar faces. Keanu Reeves returns as John Wick in a special appearance, as does Anjelica Huston as “The Director,” leader of the Ruska Roma organization. Ian McShane also stars as Winston Scott, the iconic owner of the Continental Hotel, and the late Lance Reddick in his final performance as Charon, the hotel’s concierge. Among the new faces joining this expansion of the universe are Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Norman Reedus, who will bring new nuances and conflicts to the narrative.
Production took place in Prague and other locations in Europe. Ana de Armas described filming as an extreme physical challenge. According to the actress, the film will be dangerous, sexy, and very faithful to the saga, promising to maintain the same aesthetic and combat choreography that have made the franchise famous.
Ballerina is part of a larger strategy to expand the John Wick universe, which also includes the series The Continental, focusing on the origins of the famous hotel that serves as a refuge for professional assassins. This type of production seeks to delve deeper into the mythology of the universe created by Chad Stahelski and Derek Kolstad, offering new perspectives and characters.

The official synopsis for Ballerina is: “Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas) is an assassin trained by Ruska Roma since her childhood, the same criminal organization that trained John Wick (Keanu Reeves). In this violent revenge story, Eve will do everything possible to find out who is behind her father’s murder. In her fight to discover the truth, she will have to abide by the rules of the High Table and, of course, those of the Continental Hotel, where she will discover that there are hidden secrets about her past.”
