Get ready for another season with the Red Dragons! Welcome to Wrexham Season 4 makes its two-episode premiere on Thursday, May 15, at 9/8c on FX. The eight-episode season will then air weekly and stream the next day on Hulu. This time, the history-making football club and its incredible town are taking on EFL League One after back-to-back promotions.
Welcome to Wrexham Season 3, Episode 8, “Down to the Wire,” which aired in June 2024 and saw the club’s promotion to League One. The docuseries from co-owners and chairman Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds returns to follow the 3rd oldest professional football club in the world’s journey in the new league. As it has since its debut in 2022, Welcome to Wrexham will continue to spotlight the working-class city where the historic club resides in North Wales, UK.

McElhenney and Reynolds purchased the 5th tier club in 2020, and the world quickly took notice of the underdog story. Now, Wrexham AFC are in the English Football League’s League One for the first time in 20 years. Interestingly, by the time Welcome to Wrexham Season 4 premieres, the Red Dragons may have another milestone on their CV as promotion to the EFL Championship looms.
But not to get ahead of the story, the docuseries’ upcoming season follows the club in League One, facing intense competition and costs, as well as injury setbacks and new signings. The Red Dragons’ dedicated and passionate staff and supporters celebrate the club’s climb toward the Premiership while juggling the challenges that come with it. One question looms larger, per the season’s description: “Will Wrexham AFC rise to the challenge and do what no team has ever done before?”
Welcome to Wrexham AFC will also focus on the women’s side as they try to make a name for themselves at the top of the League while coming up against the top teams in the Welsh Adran Premier League. Plus, the docuseries will follow Wrexham AFC’s Executive Director Humphrey Ker across “a series of towns, cities and boroughs likely across Wales, England and California” while he tries to raise money for charity and complete a 26.2-mile marathon.

Those loyal supporters of the club who follow them and Ker on social media know how all – or most – of these stories in sport go. Nevertheless, Welcome to Wrexham Season 4’s cameras bring “unprecedented access on the pitch, inside the locker room and alongside the players while the action unfolds in some of the biggest matches Wrexham AFC has ever played.” The docuseries takes the time to know the people and the town behind the sport. It’s why episodes like Welcome to Wrexham Season 3, Episode 5, “Temporary,” which honors the late and very great Wrexham supporter Arthur Massey, stand out.
It’s why the Emmy Award-winning Welcome to Wrexham keeps coming back for more – just like the club. After all, FX renewed the docuseries for Season 4 during Season 3 in May 2024. McElhenney, Reynolds, Josh Drisko, Bryan Rowland, Jeff Luini, Ker, Nick Frenkel, George Dewey, and Boardwalk Pictures’ Andrew Fried, Dane Lillegard, Sarina Roma, and Andy Thomas executive produce the series. More Better Productions, Maximum Effort Productions, 3 Arts Entertainment, and Boardwalk Pictures produce Welcome to Wrexham.
