There is a weird thing that happens once words are said. It doesn’t matter what the words are – if they are positive or negative – they all make things change. As I watch this show, one thing that stands out to me is the way that people use words carelessly (but think that are doing things positively). When words are used carelessly, you’re going to have to find a way to walk things back and take responsibility. There’s a lot of words that are wrong in the second episode of Ransom Canyon.
While I don’t like Davis – I find it weird that he’s so dang desperate. He comes on so strong and I would run the opposite way. Yet, it’s obvious that it is important that Davis is everywhere. For me – he’s one one of the villains of this story.
But the thing about villains is that they know how to say the right thing. They know how to manipulate. They don’t back away from trying to get what they want, no matter how much other people back away.
He’s all over the place and it feels as though he’s placed a tracker on Quinn and is going to be there every time she turns around. He wants to prove himself to be the man she should be with. Then again, he’s trying to stick it to Staten.
Nothing about Davis is genuine. He’s a self entitled man-boy.

LET ME TOP THAT OFF FOR YOU
Quinn – in my opinion – is trying to make her life work in Ransom, because she’s trying to figure out her happiness. With the way that Staten has stuck his foot in his mouth, telling her that he didn’t care what she is doing.
Staten has been texting her and she hasn’t answered. He made an excuse to come see her, but she would have been okay without that. You can see that she’s mad and that his small talk is nothing she wants to hear.
When she asks why he’s there, he talks about how he’s texted and she hasn’t answered.
Here’s the thing about women – if we’re hurt, we’re hurt. Responding – no thank you. Keeping things to ourselves? Giving the silent treatment? Oh ya, we can definitely do those things well.
Staten – I know that you are hurting, but that doesn’t mean that you get to be a jerk. What I do love is that she’s not just going to take all of what he’s saying and forget it. She’s going to move forward with her life and do the things that she needs to do. The issue is that she’s also working off a place of hurt and when you have that much hurt coming from two people – that’s a bomb waiting to explode.
Staten got himself into this though, and so for him there is no sympathy. Just the advice to keep boundaries other people set for themselves and respect them.

HE’S NEW AT THE RANCH
We know that Lauren’s Dad said that she’s not allowed to see Lucas anymore. I don’t like her for not giving him an explanation. Even her just breaking up with him would have been fine. Instead though, she’s ghosted him.
For him, it’s a big day. It’s his first day working at Staten’s ranch. His mind is going to be somewhat distracted. He knows that he needs to do a good job, but what does that mean when he’s not sure of standards right then and there.
The thing is Lucas is a good guy. He doesn’t want to be defined by his family. He wants to stand on his own two feet and his own character. How do you do that in a town where not one has faith in you?
I think that Staten is filled with faith in people. He’s just not always able to show it. He, instead, only shows faith to the people that he knows can’t hurt them. Taking Lucas for a ride and showing him the hills of the ranch – it’s where Staten feels alive.
Lucas and Staten relate to each other based on the fact that their fathers are never around. Lucas father took off a year ago and Staten’s father is never around. He’s got his life in Washington, DC.
One thing that I think we all know about television is that a lot of the time everything is a prelude to something else. Talking about fathers – we all know that one is going to show up. Most likely one that no one wants.

To give the best out of your land you gotta give it your soul. A ranch only gives what it gets.

DRINK YOUR FEARS AWAY
Ellie is one of my favorites because she has an angle. Like she loves Ransom and she has big dreams. For now that will mean that she wants to be partners with Quinn, but she also wants to show what she’s capable of.
And right now that’s kicking the beer cooler and being rude to Yancy. Though, Yancy would make me angry too.
Yancy has told her that she could probably get Austin, Water and Power to chip in some money. They are tossing money around everywhere and so why shouldn’t she take advantage.
Look, Yancy is easy on the eyes so I don’t mind the scenes that he is in. However, I don’t like him because of secrets. Yet, it’s a small town and secrets are what everyone has.
Cap doesn’t know much about Yancy and he doesn’t seem to care to know much about anyone. But Yancy wants to know all he can about Cap. He is trying to make small talk with him and ask questions, but for Cap, that just is too much. So yes, Cap fires back with sarcasm and wit.
Cap does like Yancy. He brings him to the fundraiser and even opens up about his son passing and then tells Yancy that his wife is alive. She’s got dementia and is at the local home.
I don’t know who Yancy is, truly. Even though the next day he goes to the home where Ruth is. He shocked me when he said that he was her grandson.
Lincoln was Cap and Ruths son. He was in the military and died in action. If Yancy is really their grandson, I have so many more questions here. But, that being said, just seeing him tell her that he’s Lincolns son and her reaction – jaw dropped and tears came out of my eyes.

FATHER NOT DEAREST
Daddy not dearest is home. Staten wakes up and hears noise only to find his father has returned home. The two have a relationship that is filled with animosity and anger. Both are cruel and mouthy to each other.
Daddy Kirkland snapped and told Staten that he’s not the only person that has lost someone and he misses them too. I don’t think that Daddy Kirkland realizes that it is a mixture of things. Staten doesn’t like him because he wasn’t there for him.
And Staten – well he wants someone there for him, but doesn’t want to say that.
He plays the son that shows up to the fundraiser. He lets his Dad have the spotlight and tries to be the dutiful son. However, when it comes to his Dad supporting Austin Power and Water taking over things and investing in Ransom… that’s where Staten can’t keep quiet.
When it is announced they are investing in Quinn’s dance hall, Staten looses his mind and speaks up. He is against them doing anything in the town. In a room full of people, at this dinner, he has words with Quinn.
Quinn isn’t afraid to stand up for herself. Seriously, though, when she told him the world didn’t revolve around him – I stood up and applauded.

DO BETTER MOM
Lauren blames herself for her Mom having a drinking problem and the ups and downs that they go through. She’s not sure why it is that her Mom can’t pull herself together, but she loves when her Mom tells her that she’s going to get better.
She’s going to make changes and she’s going to make sure they stick.
Lauren wants to believe in her Mom. She wants to have her Mom be healthy and sober. When her Mom asks her if she believes her – I think that she really wants to believe in her. Lauren wants her Mom to be happy, but I don’t think she’s ever going to be able to look past the cycle.
The cycle of abuse that her Mom puts her through a lot. It doesn’t take much though for her Mom to start drinking a Jack and Coke.
It’s the words that we say that we want to take back that are the hardest to deal with. Lauren is leaving for a reception and her Mom rakes her over the coals. Because Reid is the one picking her up, her Mom tells her that she gets what she is doing.
She is hanging onto the quarterback and using him as a ticket out of the town. The way that Laurens Mom speaks to her, I am not even sure of what to say. Not even sure of what I would do. But Lauren, she speaks back to her Mom and tells her off. She tells her to fix her own life before she tries to fix hers.
It’s crazy sometimes how words cut. For Lauren and her Mom – the words that they said to each other will stick with them. Later that night she’s going to realize that her Mom has left. She’s gone. She left a note, but that note fills Lauren with so much pain and regret.
For the first time I wasn’t sad she was with Reid. I got it. I understood that sometimes people having trauma – it bonds them. Reid and her both had issues that night and no one understood her the way he did. I was glad that he was there.

TWO MORE THINGS
Staten believes that someone ran Randall off the road and I have to admit that I can respect that. Parents have an intuition. He had gone to the mechanic and they said that they wouldn’t be able to trace whose truck it came from. The sheriff won’t listen.
But his foreman, Jake, he does some digging and finds that there was a truck that matches the fender they have, that a chop shop got rid of a year ago.
Staten wants the address and Jake doesn’t want to give it to him. These are people that you don’t mess with, but Staten is not someone to mess with either. So, how that goes, we will see.
The second – Kai doesn’t trust Yancy and that I can respect and agree with. Ransom is his home and the people there are family. He’s gonna protect them and that I think that I love him for.

OTHER THOUGHTS
- Staten not willing to give up on believing that someone ran Randall off the road – I admire that about him
- 3000 head of cattle – 66000 acres – that’s a lot
- Can’t get over the fact that Lauren ghosted Lucas. She needs to do better
- I would be behind Ellie and Quinn being business partners. Everyone should share their ideas.
- Lucas having to bail his brother out – that was a lot – because you see that both can live in the same reality, but see things different – completely different
- Quinns home has to smell delicious with all the lavender around.
- Not loving the fact that Quinn and Davis are together at all – let go of her hand
- Staten so worried that Quinn hates him – well, can we blame her?
- Keep your hands to yourself Staten Kirkland.
- Quinns call from the NY Philharmonic. None of us would be able to blame her if she went to NY
- There are way too many bolo ties in this show
- Davis’ stories about Lincoln – I enjoyed finding out more about Lincoln, even if it was from Davis’ mouth
- Lauren and Lucas making out – I was hiding my eyes – it felt invasive
- Yancy asking what’s up with Staten? What’s up with YOU sir?
