The queens are back, and they’re rewriting the rules—again. In a year that’s already bursting with female-fronted TV and film, 2025 is serving everything with new spin-offs and sequels for four of the most beloved women-led comedies of all time: Legally Blonde, Clueless, The Princess Diaries, and The Devil Wears Prada.
These aren’t just nostalgic throwbacks. They’re major revivals powered by some of Hollywood’s biggest female creatives. If you were raised on pink power suits, “as if!”, Genovian protocol, and editorial takedowns, welcome home.
Reese Witherspoon helms Elle, a prequel series following a high school-aged Elle Woods. Over on Peacock, Alicia Silverstone is slipping back into her plaid two-piece for a Clueless sequel. Meanwhile, Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep are reportedly circling The Devil Wears Prada 2, and The Princess Diaries 3 is also moving ahead.
Ready to catch up on who’s wearing what and saying what? Let’s go!
Legally Blonde’s Elle Woods gets a ’90s glow-up in Prime Video’s prequel

Before the courtroom, before the LSATs, Elle Woods was just a high school girl with a lot of pink and even more ambition. Elle, the upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series from Amazon MGM Studios, takes us into Elle’s formative years. Lexi Minetree has been cast as the teen version of Reese Witherspoon’s iconic character. Plus, based on the first look released by Witherspoon herself, it’s safe to say she’s channeling.
Produced by Witherspoon and written by Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the series explores Elle’s high school life in the ‘90s. “Before she became the most famous Gemini vegetarian to graduate from Harvard Law, she was just a regular ‘90s high school girl,” Witherspoon shared on Instagram.
Elle will face first love, heartbreak, and dilemmas that shape the woman we meet in the OG women-led comedy film.
Supporting cast includes June Diane Raphael and Tom Everett Scott as Elle’s parents, with Chandler Kinney playing Elle’s high school nemesis, and Gabrielle Policano as the anti-Elle. The series is expected to premiere on Prime Video in late 2025.
Clueless, The Princess Diaries, and The Devil Wears Prada return in comedy spinoff style
Peacock has officially confirmed a Clueless sequel series. So, Alicia Silverstone is reprising her role as the one and only Cher Horowitz. This new project is not the previously scrapped 2020 mystery version but a proper follow-up to the 1995 cult classic.
As Variety reports, Schwartz, Savage, and Dollface creator Jordan Weiss are writing the script. Silverstone is not only starring but also executive producing alongside original creators Amy Heckerling and Robert Lawrence.
Meanwhile, The Princess Diaries is getting a third movie with Disney, and sources say this women-led comedy will return to Genovia to explore Queen Mia’s reign and possibly introduce her heir. Though plot details are under wraps, fans are hopeful for Julie Andrews’ return.
And yes, Miranda Priestly is back, too. The Devil Wears Prada 2 is reportedly in early development, with Streep and Hathaway expected to reunite for a story that reimagines the fashion world two decades later. With these fierce females returning to our screens, it’s clear 2025 is the year of legacy and leading ladies.
Whether you grew up quoting Cher or Elle or just discovered Mia and Miranda, it’s empowering to see these women-led comedy characters evolve (and rule again).
