Forever is sometimes a dirty word. Yes, I said what I said. Forever often gives a promise that can not be kept. Forever leaves a person who has heard that word or a person who has said that word living a lie.
It – well, forever is a promise that I don’t believe can be kept. Instead, what it will do is leave you wishing that it was never said.
In Ransom Canyon, I don’t think that anything is forever. What I do think is that the idea of forever for this cast of characters is in the legacy and land. I even think that forever is an idea of love that they believe exists and lies that are told.
But forever also lives in regret. And when seeing this episode of Ransom Canyon, I wonder if forever is the regret for the words that we say and the inability to take them back.
Life is too short.
And I never expected Ransom Canyon to anger me, but also leave me crying my eyes out and wishing that I could walk through the screen and give Yancy a hug. I didn’t expect to be so heartbroken and filled with the need for a nap because I cried my heart out.
Because that death… that death felt like an ending to so many things and the beginning of so many things but hopefully, the beginning of forgiveness.
WILL YOU TELL HIM
At the end of the last episode, we found ourselves with Quinn standing outside someones door. Whose? We finally are assured that it was Staten’s and that’s just the best thing to happen to us. It’s about time that these two stopped being a bunch of cowards.
Quinn doesn’t say much, but when she does, it’s something that is important or well thought out. She sees things in a different way than others in Ransom do. But, that being said, sometimes I watch her struggle and I think that she has brought it upon herself. She doesn’t know how to do anything but run.
When Staten asks her to tell Davis that it is over, I feel like she definitely should have thought that was implied. I think that when it comes to Quinn, she never wants to upset anyone. But when you’re trying to protect yourself from the world, you may end up hurting the world.
Quinn and Staten are good together – I get that and I believe that. But what I also believe is that sometimes that isn’t enough.
When the two say their goodbyes, they tie string on each others wrists – a symbol of love and understanding, I believe. It’s just when you leave the clues, the clues wil find your secrets coming to light.
YOU STOLE
There is something so wrong and demented about Davis. He’s like a snake – one that we’d be fine never seeing again. He’s the worst. I fully expect that he’s got Daddy issues and with that comes the fact he’s a really bad one. He’s just a bad human.
But I will give Davis this. On one hand he is trying really hard to screw everyone over so that he gets out of debt. On the other hand he is trying really hard to make Quinn love him even though he’s deplorable.
Then we’re gonna have to hit the foot – cause on one foot he’s trying to be a better Dad, but failing. He’s working on taking all of Statens top clients but Staten does want to make pease with him.
Staten and Davis make a deal to work together and yes, we all can see that would never happen easily. Especially when they both are pining for the same girl.
THIS ONE WE DIDN’T SEE COMING
Leave it to Dan to be the one that throws us a curve ball that we didn’t see coming. Truthfully, we still can’t believe that this happened.
Now when Kit was arrested for Randall’s death, there was a part of me that it made sense that he did it. But we all also know that there is more to any story and Kits story was just one that we’d overlooked. Kinda the same way that all the people in Ransom have overlooked him.
The only thing that I was really wondering was why Dan hated Kit so much. None of it made sense, but as with anything you quickly learn that nothing has to make sense because there is more to the story.
And that is that Dan’s wife had an affair with Kit. She had said that it was one time, but she lied. It was a lot of times. When Dan goes to confront her and talk to her in Austin, I thought he was gonna ask her to come back. But he just wanted to know what happened.
She was the one that was driving drunk and ran Randall off the road. Kit was covering for her.
How they can fix this, I don’t know. The district attorney is going to come after Kit. Reid’s testimony is going to put him away. There is no coming back from this – unless she admits what she’s done.
The thing about life is that we’re all going to make mistakes. We’re all going to do things that we shouldn’t and we’re all going to cause chaos. It’s life. But it’s not right for someone to take the fall for the things that we do wrong.
My other thing is that I don’t know how Lauren is going to deal with this – the finding out what her Mom did. She already blames her for leaving and that’s not something that she’s ever going to be able to look past. Even as things change – her Mom is going to be lost to her.
Even more than she is.
NOWS NOT THE TIME
I can and do normally admire petty. I think Petty is an art form and we don’t practice it enough in life. However Davis’ level of petty is just reckless. The way he wants everyone to suffer for his pride – gross.
He notices that Quinn is wearing the same bracelet that Staten has been wearing and that – to him – proves that they were together. Davis can’t stand loosing to Staten and so that means he’s going to steal Staten’s clients. It’s the only way that he can get him to sell the land.
Davis is upset and I get that. But you can be upset and also not try to destroy lives. As Staten tries to figure out what is happening and why Davis is doing this – he has every opportunity to ruin Davis, by simply telling the truth. Davis is broke. He isn’t meant to know this though and so he doesn’t say a word – keeping his promise to Quinn.
But he could have. He could have matched his petty.
Davis could have found out what was happening if he just opened his eyes to the world around him. Instead he loves to play the victim and quite frankly it’s annoying. He’s not a victim. He’s a master manipulator and there is a big difference.
Davis doesn’t seem to see that his actions have consequences. He justifies that he’s doing these things for this son – but the reality is that he doesn’t have Reid in mind. For Davis this is about petty revenge. It’s about making himself feel like he’s better than others.
He wants to feel in control of something.
Only he’s not in control of anything.
EMANCIPATION
Kit is sitting in jail to protect the woman that he loves and not thinking about what this is doing to Lucas. He’s not thinking about the fact that him sitting in jail is going to cause his brother to have to go into the system.
When Lucas is at school. CPS arrives looking for him. His friend is able to get him out of there before CPS can get to him. But what also happens is that Lucas has to come face to face with his reality. What is going to happen to him?
The person that has changed the most during this whole experience is Reid. Reid has been changed by knowing Lucas – in the best way possible. He sees Lucas taking off and he wants to help Lucas not go into the system.
So he asks his Dad to help him. Reid asking Davis for anything feels like a leap, or growth. I haven’t decided yet. But what I do know is that part of what I hope comes out of this show is those two finding a common ground.
Because right now it doesn’t feel like Davis likes his son only when it’s convenient for him.
So Davis getting him the papers really made me stop to think for a bit about who Davis could be versus who he is. And I think Reid was appreciative that his father went out on a limb. But I also think that for Lucas it was hard, because coming to the point where he was going to have no one – was the worst thing possible.
THE AUDITION
One thing that I can respect about Quinn is that she doesn’t know what she wants and she admits that. She isn’t sugar coating it – she’s embracing who she is and also living with the indecision. I think that the best thing for her was that the lady from New York came back to Texas to force her hand.
And give her the spot to go to New York and audition with the Philharmonic.
We all knew that she was going to get the spot and I was thrilled that she did. I know that it’s going to take a lot for her to do it, but sometimes it is the challenge of doing something that is what makes a person grow.
I don’t know if she’ll take it – but my money is on that she will.
And the other person – whose life feels like she’s auditioning – is Lauren. She overheard her Mom and Dad fighting and knows that her Mom is responsible for Randall’s death.
How can she be with Lucas when there is this distraction? It’s a lot for her to handle.
And she can’t handle it. What happens next – she messes up a routine and hurts herself. Are her dreams over, because of her parents
THE PASSING
Talking about Caps death may break me. It may break me because the man died with a heart full of regret. He died without being able to change his life and leave a will – leaving his grandson everything.
Yancey finding Cap broke me. Like, I turned over in my bed, tears wetting my pillow and genuinely hurting. Cap was a good man, who just didn’t everything that he should of and didn’t do everything right.
But it doesn’t mean that he wasn’t filled with all sorts of love.
Telling the things that he did right wasn’t easy for Cap. It was easier for him to have people believe that he was bitter and filled with anger.
But Cap wasn’t that.
He was filled with loneliness and regret. That is sometimes harder than anything.
Yancey finding Cap – that will be one of those scenes in television history that break me forever.
Both of them – in pain.
I hate that for them both.
Ransom Canyon is streaming now on Netflix.
