Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 13 “Beautiful Broken Things” was a little different than usual and focused on Edwin. Nevertheless, we really really enjoyed it. We also learned some shocking information about his past, and maybe about Lena’s? Oh and Henry Reagan made an appearance, and if you know us, we love when people from Blue Bloods pop up.
We review Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 13 “Beautiful Broken Things” below!

Pastor Curry Doesn’t Exist
Edwin getting shot at the beginning of “Beautiful Broken Things” was intense. He isn’t just a pastor; he’s a vital part of the Silver family. Lena, while she put on a brave face after she knew her grandfather was going to be okay, she was really scared. Of course she was. Edwin’s one of the most important people in her life. And we knew she was going to catch her shot her grandfather.
Danny and Lena discover that the guy who shot Edwin was targeting Pastor Curry, a close friend of Edwin’s. But Pastor Curry doesn’t exist – he’s actually a former criminal named Larry. We knew something was up with “Pastor Curry” after he fled the hospital, but we didn’t expect that.
This news was hard for Edwin to learn – the man he respected and thought was a leader in the community was never real. But we respect Edwin for still trying to talk to Curry – or Larry. Honestly, we don’t know if we would have been so forgiving.
In the end, he did get to take down Beaumont, and he solved the case about “Curry’s” daughter really being Beaumont’s. That was one of our favorite moments of the episode because Edwin was the hero and saved the day. We were impressed.

Hidden Family Secrets
While everyone is investigating Edwin’s shooting, Mae found out that she was lied to by her sister and Edwin about her mother’s death all of these years. We feel for her. We really do. But while we’re not happy that no one told her the truth until now, we’re glad it’s all out in the open. It led to some powerful scenes between Edwin and Mae. Gloria Reuben and Ernie Hudson play off each other so well. The casting department nailed it when they chose these two to play father and daughter.
We also liked Mae and Jill’s scenes. We know it must have been hard for Jill to lie to Mae all of these years, and it probably would have been helpful for her to tell Mae so they could have grieved their mother’s suicide together. It’s clear these two are close, and now that Mae knows the truth, we hope their sister bond gets even deeper. We also hope that we see Jill again soon. We liked her.
During their conversation about Jill finding their mother, Edwin revealed something we weren’t expecting: Mae hasn’t been truthful to Lena about her past. What does that mean? Is Lena’s biological father not who she thinks he is? Did he not leave her voluntarily? We want to know! And we think once this comes out, it will have profound consequences for Lena and the rest of the Silvers. We’re kind of scared.

#HotCop
The other storyline this week was Sean and Jonah getting desk duty after another cop complains about them.
The guy that complained seemed like kind of a jerk, but he wasn’t completely wrong. It was a little silly trying when a poll was started to figure out if the “Hot Cop” was Jonah or Sean, but it added some humor to the episode which was desperately needed. It also showed us that Sean is a little insecure so we’re glad that it ended up being him that the public thought was the “Hot Cop.” And Jonah got a date out of it, so we think both of them won.
This storyline also led to good scenes between family members. It was really touching when Jonah told Sarah he looks up to her. And we may have gotten a little (or a lot) emotional when Henry saw Sean in his uniform. You can tell Henry is so proud of Sean and the man he’s becoming.
Writers – please, please, please bring Henry back soon. And maybe next time bring Jaime and Maria Baez with him. Thanks.

Other thoughts:
- It was so thoughtful of Henry to get Danny the same badge number as the one he had in New York. We know that means a lot to him.
- We can’t wait to watch Danny do his rookie tour in Boston. We feel like there will be a lot of laughs.
- “You’re not a Knicks fan, are you?” “Sorry for your loss.” That was great.
