The wins keep coming for Wrexham AFC fans! On the heels of the club’s historic promotion to the English Football League (EFL) Championship, FX has released the trailer for Welcome to Wrexham Season 4. The new season of the Emmy Award-winning docuseries will return with a two-episode premiere on Thursday, May 15, at 9/8c on FX and stream the next day on Hulu.
The show’s previous season concluded with Welcome to Wrexham Season 3, Episode 8, “Down to the Wire,” celebrating the 3rd oldest professional football club in the world’s promotion to League One for the first time in 20 years. Welcome to Wrexham Season 4 will document Wrexham AFC’s historic run. “As they continue to rise in the pyramid, the stakes get higher with a new level of intensity, competition, and costs, all while the Club continues to be plagued with injury and fans demand the signing of new talent,” per the season’s description.

A New Division, A New Competition
The Welcome to Wrexham Season 4 trailer puts all of that into League One action – “a baptism of fire,” per Wrexham AFC’s executive director Humphrey Ker. With that comes new competitors, like Birmingham FC, who have the most decorated National Football League (NFL) player in their corner. Tom Brady became a minority owner of the club in 2023. Now, Welcome to Wrexham AFC and Birmingham FC are rivals in what Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson calls “a really tough division.”
The Welcome to Wrexham trailer teases that some of that rivalry will play out on the pitch – with former English footballer David Beckham in the stands with Brady – and other parts will unfold over Brady and Wrexham AFC co-owner Rob McElhenney and Brady discussing an old It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia clip. Even with all that excitement, one of the largest questions looming over this season is if they can make a back-to-back promotion into a back-to-back-to-back promotion, taking Wrexham AFC to the EFL Championship.

The Magic Behind the Historic Promotion
Of course, Wrexham supporters who keep up with the club’s games in real time will know that the “rollercoaster of magic,” as McElhenney describes the team’s journey in the trailer, doesn’t end here. After a 3-0 win at the STōK Cae Ras on Saturday, April 26, Wrexham will play Championship football next season.
The treat is that Welcome to Wrexham gets to take fans behind the scenes and into the club’s locker room and the players, staff, and community’s lives to see how it all came to be. Co-owner Ryan Reynolds puts it quite succinctly when he says, “To make a diamond, you have to have pressure,” and Welcome to Wrexham Season 4’s trailer reveals just that.
Additionally, the upcoming season will feature Wayne Jones, the owner of Wrexham’s The Turf, as well as Channing Tatum, who was featured in the club’s Super Bowl commercial for STōK Cold Brew. Plus, Welcome to Wrexham Season 4 will follow the Women’s Team as they battle amongst the top teams in the Welsh Adran Premier League, as well a Ker’s journey training for a marathon.
Needless to say, there is plenty in store in the docuseries executive produced by McElhenney, Reynolds, Josh Drisko, Bryan Rowland, Jeff Luini, Ker, Nick Frenkel, George Dewey, and Boardwalk Pictures’ Andrew Fried, Dane Lillegard, Sarina Roma, and Andy Thomas. More Better Productions, Maximum Effort Productions, 3 Arts Entertainment, and Boardwalk Pictures produce the series.
