The cul-de-sac is getting a fresh coat of paint. ABC is officially rebooting Desperate Housewives, and none other than Scandal star Kerry Washington will executive-produce what’s being rebranded as Wisteria Lane, a story of five very different friends and sometimes frenemies who live in a picture perfect cul de sac.
According to Deadline, Washington is executive producer alongside writer Natalie Chaidez, ushering in a new era of secrets, sabotage, and suspiciously perfect lawns. They are also joined by Pilar Savone via Simpson Street as well as Stacey Sher though Shiny Penny. The project is still in early development, but sources confirm the tone will echo Marc Cherry’s original mix of murder and satire with a 2025 twist.
While ABC has not disclosed if this version will continue where the original left off or go a new path, fans are already buzzing. The original Desperate Housewives (2004-2012) tracked four women through mystery and chaos in Fairview.
The Housewives still have TV in a chokehold
Before Big Little Lies or Why Women Kill, there was Desperate Housewives. The series received critical praise and huge ratings during its prime time, becoming one of ABC’s largest successes of the 2000s.

It had soapy drama with real pathos and introduced us to legendary characters such as Bree Van de Kamp, Gabrielle Solis, Susan Mayer, Lynette Scavo, and Edie Britt. Plus, we can never forget that iconic narration by the dead housewife, Mary Alice Young.
In recent years, the show has enjoyed a renaissance on streaming, with younger audiences discovering just how juicy (and unhinged) it could get. It was never just about catfights and cocktails; the series tackled postpartum depression, addiction, class, infidelity, and domestic violence under its surface.
With the reboot in the works, it’s the perfect time to revisit the original’s campy brilliance and underlying social critique.
