Alicia Silverstone is back on our screens. This time, she’s bringing secrets, suspense, and a whole lot of Irish mystery. Irish Blood, the new original drama from Acorn TV, is shaping up to be one of the most compelling limited series of the summer. With a stunning cast, an emotional family plot, and the haunting beauty of Ireland as a backdrop, this is everything we know so far. And why we’re absolutely ready to fangirl over it.
The six-episode series follows Fiona Fox (Silverstone), a high-powered divorce attorney living in Los Angeles. Her life is upended when she receives a letter from her long-lost father. What was once believed to be a tragic case of abandonment, turns out to be the start of a journey filled with secrets, lies, and revelations. That will force Fiona to confront everything she thought she knew about her past. The twist? It all unfolds in Ireland, where generations of family drama, hidden truths, and emotional wounds resurface in unexpected ways.
What is Irish Blood About?
Set against the breathtaking Irish landscape, Irish Blood leans into its moody, coastal atmosphere with elegance. The show was filmed in Dublin and throughout the Irish countryside, giving the mystery an almost gothic edge. If you loved the emotional complexity of Broadchurchor the family intrigue in The Split, this one’s for you.
Alicia Silverstone doesn’t just star as Fiona. She also executive produces the series, marking a major step forward in her post-Clueless career. She’s joined by a cast that includes Jason O’Mara as Fiona’s enigmatic father Declan, Wendy Crewson, Dearbhla Molloy, Simone Kirby, Ruth Codd, and Leonardo Taiwo. Behind the scenes, showrunner Molly McGlynn leads a talented creative team, with writers Aaron Martin and Christina Ray crafting the show’s layered, emotionally-driven scripts.
What really sets Irish Blood apart is its tone. It’s not just a mystery. It’s a deeply human drama that explores identity, generational trauma, and the stories we tell ourselves to survive. Fiona is smart, vulnerable, and searching for answers in a world where the truth has been buried under years of silence and pain.
We’re thrilled to see Silverstone in such a complex, grounded role. And we’re excited for the blend of Irish folklore and contemporary family mystery. The trailer is already giving us major The Affair meets Mare of Easttown vibes.
If you’re looking for a summer series that balances emotion with suspense, Irish Blood is your show. Get your streaming plans ready, grab a cup of tea (or Irish whiskey, no judgment), and prepare for a story that will grab your heart and keep you guessing until the very end.
