Lizzie and Lyra continue their summer of delusion in a podcast episode all about the Ships of the 118. From Bathena to Henren and Madney, without forgetting our favorite will they/won’t they relationship of Buddie, we talk about the tropes they fall into and why we love them.
But there’s more to shipping than chemistry. Because as fans we ship because we see pieces of ourselves in the characters we see on TV or in film. And we can’t help but want them to find the happiness, love, and joy that we don’t have in our lives or that we’ve found. That’s what shipping is grounded in and why people feel so strongly about it.
Within the context of 9-1-1 we have three main canon couples who have proven that you can balance a work life with a home life. Bathena is the perfect example of a second-chance romance; and not just one that happens in your 20’s. Henren are an example of a queer couple who can have it all; the house, kids, and career. And Madney are an example of finding love after heartbreak and weathering the biggest storms together.
Where does Buddie fall into all of this? It’s the ship where we see bits of all the other couples in Buck and Eddie. And the more we see of them, the more real (and lees delulu) it feels.
