Sometimes, hard decisions have to be made. And as fans, that’s just the hardest thing to understand. I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025), the fourth film in the franchise, is coming to theaters on July 18. It just won’t be coming with all the faces we wanted (and expected) to see.
That’s right, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story actor Nicholas Alexander Chaves and The Summer I Turned Pretty actress Lola Tung, who had been reported to have been cast in the movie, will not appear when the horror film makes its way into theaters. The movie, which was directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, forever one of our favorites due to Sweet/Vicious, won’t have either actor in it, though they both filmed scenes.
“In every movie, it’s best laid plans, and then you edit the movie and you put it together and you go, ‘I love this in a vacuum. This is a fantastic scene. But it doesn’t fit in the movie,’” Robinson explained in an interview with People. “It was just one of those situations where it had nothing to do with Lola and Nicholas — they are both so fantastic. I really would love to work with them again. I loved working with them. They did a fabulous job. But in the larger tapestry of the film, it just didn’t fit.”
She also added that the situation “sucks because you don’t want to do that to those actors,” adding, “And it sucks when you love something as a scene, but that scene just doesn’t work in the final cut of the film.”
We’re disappointed, we’re not going to lie. But we’re still looking forward to seeing more of this slasher horror franchise. Nostalgia, and all.
I Know What You Did Last Summer stars Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Billy Campbell, Gabbriette Bechtel, and Austin Nichols, with Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt reprising their iconic roles from the first two films. The plot of the film picks up 28 years after the Tower Bay murders.
