Nickelodeon landed at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 with a celebration honoring the 20th anniversary of Avatar: The Last Airbender. In Ballroom 20, fans of the 2005 series were joined by moderator Janet Varney, the voice of titular character of the 2012 series The Legend of Korra.
Between a “Secret Tunnel” sing-along and a table read of Varney’s favorite Avatar episodes, we also got our first look at Avatar: Seven Havens. The upcoming 2D-animated series from Avatar Studios follows a young Earthbender who discovers that she is the next Avatar.
In the photo below you see the young Earthbender, clearly on an adventure with a creature companion and another person in the background. There are crystals in the foreground an an Earth Kingdom city in the background. From what we’ve previously learned she’s also a twin, the successor of Korra, and that she lives in an era where the Avatar is not seen as humanity’s savior, but as it’s destroyer.
If you’re a fan of The Legend of Korra, it’s especially exciting to see the next Avatar also being a girl. To this day, The Legend of Korra is a divisive successor to Avatar: The Last Airbender. As a fan, I will stand 10 toes down that Korra is a worthwhile successor to Aang. (Also, if Korra was a cute teenage boy, fans would’ve loved him.) And it didn’t help that she was consistently compared to Aang, a young boy with no family and who led a war while she was a teenager who grew up with a family and in a different era.
Hopefully this new Avatar in Seven Havens will be given a chance.

Also, there was a Avatar: The Last Airbender cast reunion during the panel. Zach Tyler Eisen (Aang), Jack De Sena (Sokka), Michaela Jill Murphy (Toph), Jennie Kwan (Suki), Dante Basco (Zuko), and Dee Bradley Baker (Appa) were joined by series composer Jeremy Zuckerman and creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino.
Unfortunately, Mae Whitman (the voice of Katara) wasn’t in attendance. But she did record a heartfelt video “expressing her deep gratitude for being part of Avatar: The Last Airbender‘s 20th anniversary, reflecting on growing up with the show and her excitement to one day share it with her own child.”
As for the table read we mentioned earlier in this post; the cast read from many iconic episodes. They included “The Serpent’s Pass/Appa’s Lost Days,” “The Western Air Temple,” and “Sozin’s Comet, Part 4: Avatar Aang.”
Avatar: Seven Havens is one of many projects coming up for this universe. But the one fans are most excited about is the feature film The Legend of Aang: The Last Avatar. That arrives in theaters on October 9, 2026.
