We don’t hide. In this house, we love soap operas! They’re the shows that taught us how to ship. And there’s no ship more iconic than Armando and Betty in Betty, La Fea. A couple whose story is like a roller coaster that makes you cry, laugh, get emotional, and sigh.
At first, Armando only intended to use her by pretending to make her believe he was in love with her, but then he fell into his own trap. He had to fight tooth and nail to get her back, learning along the way to value her and let her go so she could be happy.
So, when Betty La Fea: The Story Continues came into our lives, we devoured it! Now, with Season 2 already here, we’re excited about everything to come. That’s why, every week until the season finale, we’ll get together to talk about everything the show makes us feel in a roundtable. We’ll start with the first two episodes, which are now available on Prime Video. Ready?
Here we go!
What do you think about Betty and Armando getting back together? Do you agree with the lie they told Mila?
Raquel: I’m literally jumping for joy! I loved that Betty threw away the divorce papers and ran after Armando, but you know what I loved most? That he gave her that choice. He set her free because he understood he’d lost her because of his mistakes and that she deserved to be happy. So he signed those papers even though it broke his heart because he loves her. I think that’s what made Betty realize she didn’t want to, and couldn’t, let him go.
As for the lie, I truly understand Betty. She and her daughter have a complicated relationship. She always felt there was something between them, and while Mila loved her father and was close with him, she wanted to get as far away from her as possible. And now, Betty feels she’s closer to Mila than ever and doesn’t want her to get disappointed, angry, and go back to being that cold, distant Mila with her. But that lie isn’t fair to Armando, Mila, our favorite lawyer, or even Betty herself.
Armando doesn’t deserve to be hidden away as if Betty were ashamed of having gotten back together with him. Mila deserves for her mother to tell her the truth—when she finds out everything, it will be worse. Our favorite lawyer is harboring hopes because of this lie that leads nowhere. And Betty deserves to live her happiness in freedom and share it with the people she loves, not hide away as if she were doing something wrong. So, yes, I understand why Betty lied, but it’s not the right thing to do.
Lizzie: Look, this is a telenovela or a series based on a telenovela, so I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t expecting her to call him and throw the papers in the ocean. And when it happened, that’s one of those things I wasn’t upset about! We can always count on telenovelas to give us that moment. And it’s often the moment we want. There’s nothing wrong with giving audiences what they want!
And honestly, I know the will they/won’t they sells, but I was bummed when this show started with them about to get a divorce. Like, after all my teenage suffering? LOL. I mean, at one point, I would have understood Betty not wanting anything to do with Armando, but in some ways, it felt like a lot of things regressed. So I’m glad about where we are at the beginning of Season 2. Except for the Mila of it all.
Look, I just want to say to Betty and Armando: you can’t let your kid dictate your life. And you don’t have to “protect” her from your decisions. She’s a grownass woman, not a kid! Let her deal with it and get over it, or not. Her choice.
Speaking of Mila, what do you think about her treating her father like this and pressuring Betty so much not to get back with him?
Raquel: Well, playing devil’s advocate, part of me understands Mila. Her father was her hero, her role model; she admired him, adored him. And finding out he was capable of something so horrible, and her mother of all people, knocked him off his high pedestal. And she’s reacting to that, rebelling. But that’s no way to treat her father. Armando made mistakes, but he learned from them and paid for them. Mila should try to talk to him to hear what he has to say.
As for Betty, I love that Mila’s defending her in this fierce way, like when she spoke to Calderón, but whether or not she forgives Armando and gets back together with him is Betty’s decision, not hers. It’s not fair for Mila to put Betty in a situation where she feels she has to decide between her feelings for Armando and not letting Mila down.
Lizzie: LOOK, Mila is getting on my last nerve. If she were 15, I might understand her reaction. But she’s not. And she went from “I hate my mother, my father is the best” to “I hate my father, my mother is the best.” In the end, both her mother and her father are human beings who make mistakes and who love each other, and that part really has nothing to do with her.
And I’m glad she’s seeing her mother in a new light, I am! Betty deserves that. But also, she gets the dramatic flair from her father; she really does. And she needs to take a chill pill or three.
Betty and Armando aren’t just having complications in their personal lives, but also in their professional ones. After these first two episodes of Betty La Fea: The Story Continues Season 2, they have to decide what to do with Ecomoda. What do you think they should do?
Raquel: It’s a complicated question with an even more complex answer. They need Nacho’s capital to pay off the debts, but once they accept it, there’s no turning back. They’ll lose Ecomoda. But I think they should avoid losing control of the company at all costs. I think together they can find some other way to raise financing and work from there. They’ve always formed a great team and managed to save Ecomoda together. This time will be no different.
And I have to say I love that Armando hasn’t let Majo blackmail him and that he and Betty trust each other so blindly. Also, I don’t rule out Pascual being a future ally of Team Betty, especially if he and Marce start something.
Lizzie: Hasn’t Ecomoda been in danger about 73 times before, and they’re still around? I can’t even worry about Ecomoda at this point. Ecomoda is immortal. The company will never die.
Also, I think they probably need an outside investor. Where they could find it, I don’t know, but giving everything to Nacho just isn’t an option. I know this is pride talking, but I’d lose the company over giving it to him.
Finally, we have a baby on board! Nicolás and Patricia AKA “La Peliteñida” are expecting a baby and ended up getting married in a chaotic wedding. What do you think about this? Is the baby Nicolás’s? Do you think they did the right thing getting married?
Raquel: “La Peliteñida” and Nicolás got married and are having a baby! I was shocked by this. Although I firmly believe that a baby is no reason for any wedding in the year of our Lord 2025, I am in favor of this wedding because I believe that Nicolás truly loves her and that “La Peliteñida” loves him back…in her own way. And yes, I think the baby is Nicolás’s. Can’t wait to see them as parents! It will be really funny.
Lizzie: Look, I think the baby is for sure his and not just that, I think they really wanted to get married, despite the hubris. Their relationship has always been played a little bit like a joke, but I think the two really love each other, and they can continue being hilarious now that they’re married, just in a different way.
Betty La Fea: The Story Continues Season 2 airs on Thursdays on Prime Video.
