Ironically, as I start to write this, the news is playing a story about AI helping brides plan their wedding, and I am going to be talking about a wedding. A wedding in the afterlife, where the person is being kept alive as a download. Now, while I have loved this series, this episode of Upload, alone reminds me just how dangerous that AI can be.
The characters of Upload have never stopped surprising me, because how the show is both ewww and yay. The show has been imaginative and has really challenged the status quo. There are a lot of things that happen that are both concerning and an eye opener.
And this time – well, it’s a balance of both.
As you may recall, last season, there were two Nathans. One was the Nathan that Ingrid loved, and one was the one that Nora loved. But the one that Nora loved – well, he’s supposedly dead. We just know that a bunch of billionaires are afraid of Nathan and what he can bring to light. So believing that he is gone is plausible.
While I do think that it’s kind of weird falling in love with AI, because isn’t that what Nathan is? He’s artificial and an upload of his consciousness. I think that I have to suspend my belief in people falling in love with AI, and then I remember that it is reality.
Diving into it, all I have to say is – please don’t ever upload me.
DEPRESSED AND COMPLEX
Good Nathan being gone has made me kind of sad. Why? Because I do love the relationship that Nora and Nathan have. The two are better because of each other. It felt like it took Nathan dying for us to realize that they are soulmates.
That’s hard for me to say, because I am not sure that I believe in soulmates.
Seeing Nora keep the glasses on and her playing out what would have been her and Nathan’s wedding is sad. Her heart is broken, and she doesn’t want to accept that. None of us would want to lose the person we are in love with. That’s just a fact.
There is nothing worse than heartache. Seeing Nora as a hot mess, not showering and not eating, well – that fit. There is nothing that anyone can say or do to make that different for her. She has to come face-to-face with her heartache in order to move forward. Well, that and a shower.
She definitely has to shower.
It takes time for Nora to be able to open up the door and talk to her friends. Aleesha and Ingrid, as her besties feels weird, but it is also natural. These characters have gone through alot these past few seasons, and no one can relate to each other the way that all of them can.
Seeing Aleesha and Ingrid trying to pull Nora out of it made me like them even more. There is nothing about the three of them that screams friendship. The three of them, though, balance each other out.
It’s just that there are a lot of secrets that need to come out first.
SHE A SPY
Aleesha, girl, I love you. You’ve definitely been one of the best parts of this series. Your comedy is on point. You make me laugh, but I also appreciate your level of pettiness. I want to achieve that.
Aleesha being a spy and then training – I couldn’t stop laughing. That was so good.
I have always thought that Aleesha is a lot kinder than she allows people to see. She just keeps her distance, because life is easier that way. But, she does things for her friends in a passive smarty smartypants way.
I have a feeling that it’s her being a spy that is gonna put everything on the path of coming out into the open.
We’ll just look past who she was kissing. Cause Luke? No way. Girl, do better.
WEDDING
Ingrid marrying Nathan – it’s weird. It’s so weird, but I know that it’s all she ever wanted. So hey, if your man has to be deceased and it be his conscious that you wed – but one that is the past versus who he is – who am I to judge? Well, the one writing this.
And I am judging.
Nora showing up in that wetsuit thing to be Ingrid’s Maid of Honor. It feels like because she saw the real Nathan, she feels that she can move forward. It’s a testament to the progression of this show that these two are friends.
A wedding feels like it’s the happiest thing that has ever happened to Ingrid, and it’s because of that that I feel like I can find some smiles with that wedding. Ingrid has been a lot of the chaos throughout the seasons. Seeing her become a different person and yet still staying the same – I do really like that. It leaves me surprised, and that is something I enjoy in television and movies.
Ingrid looks happy and yet fierce. She’s complex.
She also doesn’t necessarily deserve Nora. As her outfit/wedding dress disappeared, Nora stepped out of the sim and plugged her cord into Ingrid’s.
One of them is going to be happy. Nora isn’t sure that will ever be her.
IS IT A GHOST?
Do you believe in ghosts? In this show, I really am unsure of how that works. But Nora believes that she is seeing Nathan’s ghost.
I have lost people in my life and have thought that I have seen them before. I have heard their voices. There is a lot that happens with grief.
Her seeing Nathan – the Nathan that we all like – felt like a dream. One that she was trapped in because of being depressed. However, seeing him gives her hope. She’s willing to weather the road.
When we do find out that he’s projecting, and that means that he’s alive.
Thank the heavens.
OTHER THOUGHTS
- Ivan – stay out of the common areas. No one wants to see you
- The amount ppl that tell Nora to take a shower – damn, she must really smell
- I can’t even talk about the bachelorette party – that made me want to vomit.
- Seriously, I’m gagging
- In the spirit of what’s good for goose, I will not be talking bachelor party either
- Ingrid as an angel cracks me up
- Nora talking to her Dad – teared up. Love that she had that.
The final season of Upload is streaming now on Prime Video.
