Love. It’s meant to be felt, and it’s meant to be lived. The whole premise of AI looking for love, feeling emotions, and searching for more out of life (from the computer) is quite scary. While I know that AI is something that can’t really be avoided these days, it doesn’t mean that I don’t want to avoid it. UPLOAD Season 4 Episode 2 has taught me that AI is a dangerous thing in the wrong hands.
Avoiding it is the only thing that makes me feel safe.
And yet, here I sit, watching another episode of UPLOAD, and it’s got so many parallels to life as it is now. There are so many things in the show that I would be terrified if they happened – uploading brains, jobs becoming AI, people being disposable. I think that these things happen in little ways, but UPLOAD seems like a cautionary tale.
NATHAN IS ALIVE
Fake Nathan or Real Nathan – they are both confusing. However, what we do find is the real story behind Nathan’s “death” and disappearance.
One thing that I both admire and am confused by is Nora’s dedication to Nathan. If he’s in the grown body and is alive – I get feelings. But I can’t understand falling in love with AI. While I do love Nathan and Nora together – that part has always confused me.
However, going to remove myself from that part for a second, because if I do that, I can see why these two are perfect together. They are dedicated to each other and have the same goals in life. They complete each other in a way that makes sense and also can be terrifying. Being that vulnerable and giving of yourself to another person – that takes courage.
Nora knows that Nathan is alive and has been talking to him. It’s a matter of finding him. She’s lucky that she has such great friends – especially Allegra, who gets her back in the office so she can visit Lakeview.
WORKLOAD
Lakeview is changing, but it’s no surprise with all the billionaires behind the scenes playing God with people’s lives. They are all about how much money they can make and how fast they can make it.
So they’ve figured out a way to have the Uploads work at a lower price point than having humans work. They aren’t even thinking about the financial impact that it will have, except for the money that they are saving.
Nathan and Luke are both working at Workload. Nathan to save money for his honeymoon, and Luke for God knows what. But they are doing it, and it is quite funny.
Count on Aleesha to make us realize that there’s a lot of shady crap going on. She is at a meeting with the owner of Upload, and she finds out that the company is planning. Layoffs, uploading living people to Workload, and a lot of experimenting on human beings.
ALEESHA IS WHO WE ALL WANNA BE
We all have that favorite character on a television show, and for me, Aleesha fits that bill. The woman is fierce and doesn’t care what people think of her. She’s living life basically on her terms – besides, you know, the people that are making her be a spy.
Her at the company meeting and figuring out what she needs to do to stop it. She relays the message to the people that she needs to. They’ve got more of a mission for her.
They want her to check out a place in Upstate New York – the real-life Lakeview. But that’s not before she’s walking an alley and hostiles want to take her out. While we don’t get to see the fight, the aftermath leaves her with a black eye.
I can’t stop laughing though, at how much people don’t know her and understand her. She is underestimated at every turn. But she’s definitely ahead of most people.
INGRID & THE CHINCHILLA
If there is anyone who makes me laugh in this show, it is Ingrid. She’s so self-involved, narcissistic, and annoying. But in this episode, she takes on a new role. A life coach chinchilla. I seriously couldn’t stop laughing.
The person she’s gotta give advice to is Luke. These two are arch enemies. But the thing that I love in this show and I don’t want to take for granted is Ingrid’s growth. Sure, she is weirdly obsessed with Nathan, but we’ve known that. It’s just that now she’s got besties and is living with them.
And spends the rest of her time at Lakeview.
It’s her advice and being a chinchilla that had me cracking up. However, I did love that she was willing to bend when it came to Nathan and their honeymoon. Something about Botox babies – and that is a show that I don’t want to see.
But that being said, Ingrid offering advice is something that she should never do.
I WANNA SEE YOUR MEMORIES
When Nora is at Lakeview, she gets fake Nathan – well, forces him – to let her see the last memories with Nathan.
And when she sees the memory, she sees all of the things that happened on Nathan’s last day. She sees the video of how he was destroyed and how it happened. He was fearless.
But he was also trapped in a no-win situation. There was nothing that he could do to find his way out of it, and he had said to save fake Nathan.
Nora steals the memory and brings it home. There is something that tells her that it was messed with – the memory. And she’s not wrong
Nathan is alive. He didn’t die that day. The question remains, though – where is he?
And that’s when Aleesha tells her about the testing upstate. The real-life Lakeview. The place where they are all going to have to go.
2 more episodes in this season. Looks like the finale is going to be INTENSE and a mission to save them all.
Here for it!
OTHER THOUGHTS
- The AI bellman wanting to find love and then love jumping out of him and falling in love with someone else – that was a lot
- Also, never wanna see AI making out in an elevator. File that under do not wanna see
- Luke is too much, but he does love Nathan, and that’s a good thing
The final season of UPLOAD is streaming now on Prime Video.
